intake probem
intake probem
so here is my problem and dont laugh. so installed the hahn air intake probably almost a year ago now. now im having all these problems. so long story short i have the maf sensor replaced cuz mine was going bad ad the mechanic says ya your maf sensor is put in backwords so instead of it reading the air coming from the turbo down the ppe and out the cone filter the sensor is switched and its reading the air coming in the car. so its all fucked up. he says well i would need to drill new holes in the pipe so the existing hols on the sensor will line up and can be mounted. . . cost about 400..so im thinking there is no way hahn would build a pipe for a cobalt and build the pipe wrong. so im thinking i may have installed the lower pipe with the cone on it backwards?? witch also means i probably just bought a hundred dollar sensor for nothing
so tomarow im going to take it all apart and see if i messed up andput it on backwards. i really hope i did cuz i shouldnt be having to moddify that pipe that much. hahn cant have that shittyof materials. anyone else ever make this mistake

There is. no possible way u could install it backwards. If u have the hook that comes off the intake tube mounted to the side wall ur fine.
And ur mac is supposed to read air going into the turbo

Remove the maf yourself and verify which direction the opening on the narrow side of the maf is facing (there is only one side that has this opening). The opening should be facing toward the fresh air inlet side of the intake pipe (facing the cone filter).
Although to be honest, if the maf was indeed facing the wrong direction you would have been experiencing issues pretty much immediately upon driving the vehicle after you installed the intake.
Not to mention though, like you said, I really highly doubt that Hahn would accidentally weld on the maf pad facing the wrong direction but just pull the maf to verify which direction it is facing just to be sure.
It sounds like either your mechanic is a little confused on what he is looking at or you aren't very good at relaying the information he told you..

well then if thats true then wtf is wrong with the car. cuz it kept throwing the p0101 and the car kept backfiring and when the code came on the power when away it started to jerk air flow gauge freaked out loss of power in 3 4 and 5 gear it would try its best to kill itself untill i cleared the code. everyone that had the same problem said my maf is bad. so i replaced it. but ok here is what the dealership guy said. ill try my best to explain what he said. ok from the turbo to the end of the intake pipe down to the cone he said all the arrows on the sensors should be pointed down torwards the floor. but he said my maf was switched so its pointed back to the turbo. so he showed me on my old sensor i had replaced that the way it works is the opening on the sensor that reads the air that little small square hole. that hole is down facing the floor and he said its supposed to be up facing the turbo so it can read the air coming from the turbo out into the intake. so he said he has to drill holes into the pipe so he can switch it around. now i dont know a lot about cars or sensors but i highly doubt they desined car parts to work backwards? correct me if im wrong. but thats just what the mechanic said. granted i havnt had it dyno tuned yet. is that the resaon why all this is happening? would the tune correct everything or am i missing something here?
see thats what i thought but i have had the car for 2 years now the gms1 for a year almost and its just now having these problems i have had the hahn intake on for almost a year now well same as the gms1 i just dont understand how something in a car can still work "backwards" and just now be causing problems. cuz out of the four delaerships that i have been through and had work o my car this is the first guy to say something about it??? soo idk about that

Now can the sensor be bad? Absolutely, especially if it's gummed up with oil from the k&n filter. This doesn't mean that the maf was facing the incorrect direction especially if you already verified which way it is facing
And you're still getting the same codes? If so then he diagnosed the issue incorrectly. Did he actually go through with redrilling the intake maf pad and turning the maf around? I hope for your sake that you didn't pay $400 for that repair. That's going to be another big part of your problem if he did
Just be sure whoever tunes the car is familiar with tuning DI engines. In particular the LNF
ya there is one down here in bremerton they are the best in the state of wa. there supposed to be master mechanics and do amazing jobs at tuning our cars and what not. ill be giving them a try here pretty soon
