Intake with Warranty...

Im just curious if anybody with an aftermarket intake (Dejon, Hahn...) has had their car into their dealer for any work. Im just wondering if dealers are going to car about such a small mod... I just wanted to see so I know if I should go to the trouble of swapping the stock intake back on if I have any issues I need warranty work on. I do all my on maintenance at my shop, but any warranty work requiring parts Ill take to them so I just wanted to see what you guys have experienced. I know they have to prove what ever problem you have came from that particular mod, but Id rather avoid any suspicion if possible. So....has anybody with an intake gotten any grief?

Thanks.

I would call the dealership you plan on taking it to and tell them that you're thinking about getting an intake on the car and want to know if it'll affect your warranty... Just basically feel them out and see if they object right away or give you the ok. Some dealers are cool about it (the ones that actually know what they're doing) and others are not so forgiving and will do anything to void your warranty and have YOU PAY!!!! My experience has been pretty good, depending on the dealer, most of them actually made comments about how good it made the turbo/supercharger sound. Good luck!

I know it's not an intake, but I have a Hahn intercooler on mine. When my stock IC broke, I asked the dealer if they'd have an issues with me putting in a different IC. Not only did that not have any problems with it, they even installed it for me. The warranty no longer covers the IC of course, or if the IC is proven to cause other damage. Overall, everything was fine.

That last statement is key: "The warranty no longer covers the IC of course, or if the IC is proven to cause other damage." The law provides that you can do whatever you want to your car and it will not necessarily void your warranty. They have to show that the aftermarket part was the cause of whatever failure you are bringing the car into them for. For example, if you put an intake on and your air conditioner goes out, they can't void the warranty. BUT if you put an intake on, and your MAF sensor goes out, and causes other problems, then yes, the warranty can be voided.

Yeah. It seems like common sense to me too. If you install something on your car that isn't GM's, then it's not up to them to fix it because it isn't theirs. It also isn't their fault if you break something that didn't have a flaw of its own.

The warranty BS happens when they try to pawn off things that break under warranty and try to claim something outside of GM's control (such as an aftermarket part) made it break. They have to prove that it did, but there's sometimes a gray area about proving/disproving that sometimes.

I was thinking of doing that. Like you said, my main concern is my dealer isnt too familiar with these cars, so I think they may panic with any little mod. I may be wrong though. I think giving them a call will be the best bet.
