Intercooler Issue!!!

And by "issue" I mean I blew a hole in the end cap. Sooooo I now need a new intercooler. Im thinking either zzp probably the small version or treadstone tr10. Which do you recommend and is there much difference between the large and small zzp intercooler? I have bottomed out so just to be safe I think the smaller one would be better unless there is an advantage to the large one.

Thanks guys.

I have the full size ZZP intercooler, install was easy and it fit like a glove, it isn't as low as I thought it would be, it sits higher than the front lip. But yeah if you bottom out go with the shorter one.

Definitely ZZP. Direct bolt in, super easy install. I'm pretty sure the TR requires cutting.

its just a bit smaller so it don't hang quarter inch below the bumper. if ur stock turbo take low profile, if ur planning on big turboing any time probably get the big one or treadstone. cant go wrong with zzp, great intercooler

Avoid the TR10, fits like poo poo for the money. Go with zzps

My zzp standard size intercooler sits about half an inch below the lip. But its one of the best things I've bought so far. Great quality too.

okay well its between the zzp standard and low clearance now. I probably won't ever get a bigger turbo but with stock turbo is there any advantage to going with the standard?

Well I definitely won't be doing it until my warranty is up and I feel like at that point its not worth putting a lot money into. And yeah, I know its only 10 dollars but its all about if theres enough performance gain to make it worth risking possibly mashing the large intercooler into the ground if I do bottom out or something.

Well intercooler isnt really for hp gains, its pretty much a stock replacement for the plastic end caps as you can see that they brake. You will only see the advantages when tuning for a bigger turbo to my knowledge

I think it just gets back the little power it looses from heating up or something like that. I would tune for it. I think Ive seen that the large one does cool better by 5-10 degrees. I would think thats significant.

I have the standard size and it's about even with my lip, maybe a hair lower.

You're not going to smash the full size intercooler on ground or on a curb with YYZ's.

I'm sorry but if your bottoming out a stock intercooler you should purchase another stock one. It sits the heighest of them all. No one's intercooler will help you in the event you bottom out.

I find it funny how everyone claimed the stock intercooler is fine years ago. I knew those endtanks would fail and they were back then but everyone said it rarely happens. I guess time tells the story.

I believe the TR8 sits the highest. especially if you take into the account of that condenser bar on the stocker. Also I dont think he bottomed out to break the stocker. I think it cracked like they all do from pressure. Treadstone is a crappy fit, but it fits. I dont like the sandwich mount they have for the thing but the mounting brackets can be bent so you can make it fit better.

Stock intercooler is fine I ran 26psi through mine for 2.5 years. A 2x4 coming off a truck and flying up under my bumper is what destroyed mine or else I would have a stock one still on. They aren't 100% bullet proof but I'm just saying there's no reason in changing till they break

I just ordered the increased clearance model. I would have much preferred the large one but I looked at the bottom of my lip today and its all torn up. Im normally pretty careful but sometimes I don't notice that its too steep until its too late. plus my mom ran off the rode once and scraped it real bad. Theres scrapes on the bottom of the stock intercooler because of that which sits real high. It would have been bad if that happened with the large zzp intercooler.

Yeah thats the one to get, its the same dimension as a TR8 which I believe is about >150 cu. in over the stock IC. So still technically its a "bigger" intercooler. The ZZP's big IC is waaay to big for the stock turbo. By that I mean, theres no such thing as too big but you could cut away 1/3 of that IC and it will still be 100% as efficient as it is now lol.

I believe the ZZP IC is like 1200 cu. in. stocker is like ~550 cu. in., the TR8 is like 700 cu. in. and the TR10 is like 1100 cu. in.

I didnt measure any of them, I am going off a rough memory estimate since the sizes were discussed years ago. Theres a post about ICs on here comparing the core composition and size.

So it appears that it will be here Monday. I started taking the bumper off. I took the snap caps out on the top and the 4 screws from the wheel well. Theres 2 more snap caps facing down near the top of the intercooler how did you guys get those out? I have long needle nose pliers I'm guessing thats the best way since the bottom grill is still in. Also from what I've seen online there are a few screws that are under the headlight I think on the wheel well side. I saw a couple people say you don't need to remove the headlight. How else could you do it? Remove the wheel well guard?

Headlights 100% do not need to be removed

you remove the 10mm bolt in the wheel well(the last one) it will have a shoulder. make sure the plastic is not cold and give the bumper a good tug from the wheel well side and it should unlatch itself.
