Intermittent Boost Issue
Intermittent Boost Issue
I have a 2008 Cobalt SS that has developed an odd issue. Sometimes it will build full boost ~15lbs, but other times it will on go up to 5lbs and hold steady. I am guessing the cause is due to a sensor, but past threads on similar issues seemed to just result in "go to the dealer" responses. Any idea?
Thanks in advance,
Nate

You stock? The car will make exactly as much boost as it needs to make and hold 260 HP when it is stock. If that's 2 pounds or 12 that's what you're gonna get. If you're tuned then that's a different story.
I need to get the CEL pulled again. They told me it was a p2036, but that isnt pulling up anything cobalt related. Car is stock aside from metal intercooler piping, K&N drop in filter, and muffler delete.
Sox-Fan: I kind of doubt that is it as it will do this within a few minutes, going between 15lbs and 5lbs.

From some additional browsing with that code, it seems like I should start by looking at the TMAP sensor. I am betting he misread the code. Same guy also pulled my diagnostic port lose from the dash trying to disconnect the reader :/

Well, is it a 2036 or an 0236?
Could be a MAP sensor, could be your 02 sensor. You need to get the code checked. A lot of auto parts stores will do that for free.

Good Bluetooth OBDII readers are like $80 on Amazon. Just download the Torque app and you're set.
There is no way he is making 260 on 5 psi, so that wouldn't be the issue

everyone who complains about lag on the torque app needs to change to a more simple skin. that is what causes the application to gain latency, not the bluetooth adapter you use.
/edit/ didnt refresh and LOL - great minds think alike.
2. Stock IC
Well pulled the TMAP sensor. Has the proper blue o-ring, but appears to have oil on the sensor. Going to grab some cleaner from the parts store and give it a good cleanup, then reinstall
I got an OBD reader from ebay for $11.00 and it works fine.

I never complained about lag...and I meant to put $8. I was at work and probably wasn't paying attention lol.
[QUOTE=tamadrummer;7076335][quote]You mean OBD2 bluetooth readers are $12. Don't ever spend 80

From everything I've read about it people with the 80-120 dollar scanners claim there is decreased latency between the devices - If you do go to a more basic theme (I use the black/red plain one) the readings are much, much closer to real time than some of the prettier themes.
Back on topic - clean your map sensor and you should be good to go, if that doesn't work boost leak check it!

Cleaned TMAP sensor and put it back together. Noticed the car started up much quicker than it normally does after a battery disconnect. Keeping my fingers crossed that I wont get a code tomorrow
Well no dice. Check engine light popped on before I left my street. Hwy on ramp I gave it full throttle in 2nd and got 3psi, peddled the gas and then went full and got 15psi through the top of second, hit 3rd and 3psi again. Guess I will clean the manifold MAP sensor this afternoon.
