Lash Adjusters?

Ok so I have been hearing a ticking more of a rapid squek ticking sound under load, also at idle you can here it but not squeking. It's not the direct injection noise either. But now the story...

I went to the dyno the other day, I'm bolted and tuned at 23psi. But anyway I get on dyno after someone with the same mods. He ran 325whp. I only got 300whp. I blame it on crappy gas but afterwards a few guys said about the squealing and ticking that I've been hearing.

What does everyone think it is? I was being told lash adjusters??Y

Bump before bed

seeyaass 12-05-2011 01:44 AM

You talking about my car? Lol, there has been cases where people's lash adjusters were trashed and they didn't even know it. Only way to know for sure is to take the valve cover off and check it out bro!

MastaShaKe_88 12-05-2011 02:09 AM

bump, i wanna know.. sometimes i hear the dreaded clickin 2  an difference between dyno numbers could jus come down to the tune or car itself..

but about these lash adjusters...

TheBoss8688 12-05-2011 07:33 AM

Yea your car bro. I just figured I would somewhere close but there has been something wrong with my car since day one so it kinda was expected. But still in for answers.

FasterIsBetter 12-05-2011 08:36 AM

Usually when they're going bad, your car has a subaru gurgle iirc.

seeyaass 12-05-2011 10:00 AM

Hmm.. Dam I would pop off your Valve cover and take a look! It takes like30 min!

TheBoss8688 12-05-2011 10:36 AM

Yea. Going to. Never sounds like a Subaru but it just has that ticking and it's only getting louder.

seeyaass 12-05-2011 10:37 AM

I'd definitely check it out !!

TheBoss8688 12-05-2011 10:43 AM

Since I really don't know what they look like, can someone throw a pic with them circles or help me someday with it?

JacBlackSS/TC 12-05-2011 11:18 AM

you will clearly see if something is wrong with them they sit on top of the valve springs right underneath the cams you won't even need to do anything besides taking the cover off to notice anything out of place

seeyaass 12-05-2011 11:53 AM

They look like bullets kinda, ovalish, trust me when you open the valve cover you will definitely notice if something is out of place!

klloyd 12-05-2011 12:08 PM

Funny you say subbie noise, when you first started the car to back onto the dyno we kinda heard it and just looked at each other ans said "subbie??". It wasn't as loud as a dead cylinder would be but it was noticeable, I would look into that.

TheBoss8688 12-05-2011 12:41 PM

O shit. Should have said something. But yea I'm going to look into it. Ok well I'll update everyone. I might start to pull things apart tomorrow. My dad knows a lot about motors but mainly older cars but he can help. Thanks guys for giving me advice and helping.

klloyd 12-05-2011 01:02 PM

Didn't think anything of it because it wasn't real loud and it sounded like it went away.

TheBoss8688 12-05-2011 01:03 PM

Should I go buy a new gasket for when I go to put back together?

TheBoss8688 12-05-2011 01:51 PM

Oh so I'm thinking it's just the start of an issue then

ATLsilverSS 12-05-2011 02:44 PM

you can reuse the valve cover gasket as long as you don't damage it. its just a rubber seal

chitala383 12-05-2011 11:02 PM

This may be my problem. I have a fast ticking noise and a subie type gurgle as well. How many lash adjusters are there?

16, its $150 for a set from zzp and you might as well get springs/retainers ($290) too to solve the issue for good. Valve float from increased boost and a raised rev limiter is believed to cause the issue and is cured with springs.

chitala383 12-05-2011 11:44 PM

I'm gonna pull my valve cover on Thursday hopefully and check everything out. Hopefully that's the only problem.

chitala383 12-05-2011 11:54 PM

Are there any aftermarket lash adjusters? Bc the ones from zzp are oem. So my theory is that if i broke the original ones I'll break replacements as well unless they're more durable. Also, do i need to retune for the 82# valve springs? Or does it not make a difference? I've had this car for 3.5 years but I'm still kind of a noob at this shit. Haha

MastaShaKe_88 12-06-2011 02:35 PM

so OP, did you ever go check under your Valve cover? how'd it look?? any pics???

FasterIsBetter 12-06-2011 02:47 PM

Pretty sure oem lash adjusters is what zzp uses. I dont believe there are any other options.

TheBoss8688 12-10-2011 08:48 AM

Well my dealer is taking a look. They help me out even with performance so hopefully they take care of it. Still not sure if that's the issue
