Looking to upgrade turbo
Looking to upgrade turbo
Hey guys i have an 08 ss/tc and im at the point to where i want to upgrade my turbo but im having trouble picking between the zfr and the ko4+.also im a little concerned about my transmission and 3rd gear breaking.also if im all stock internals and i have k&n short ram upper cp and looking to get a dp whats the max boost i should run if i do go through with this.
k04+ is a waste IMO. Boost depends on how long you want your turbo to last. most people run stock turbo 24-25 safely. Do you have access to E85? People have had 3rd gaer break on stock turbos as well.
Look for a used ZFR - to save money.
What is your goal for power wise? stock turbo 325whp is avg i would say with HPT.

If you want to save your tranny, you need a slower spooling turbo.
Hahn has the s20g for sale $989. I would suggest that and it will get you around 400/400 on 25psi and 93 gas fbo....
Im gonna do a k04+ myself though, but only because im getting it for less than half of the new price.
I agree with the e85 statement, it by far is the best bang for buck.

Well, fbo and a good hp tune 25psi on the stock turbo should get you 320whp/400wtq.
With a k04+, the results will be around 360whp/400wtq with the same set-up and a bigger powerband than the stock turbo.

Depends how you like it. Literally. The k04+ is just gonna be a bump above stock with just a bit of additional power and about the same spool limited to like 360top. The 20g will spool a good bit slower but will have power up top and will more room to grow like as in high 300s and low 400s on pump gas.
For the money and your choices, the 20g is the better option. There's always other turbos out there though. Just depends how deep your pockets are.

I think the hahn s20g is the perfect choice for our stock clutch/tranny for longevity. Any other turbo hits too hard at spool up for our weak tranny.
Plus, you still will have decent midrange and great top end power.
The only problem is you will have to buy a blow-off valve due to the new turbo set-up....gl

no, they have a recirculting system so you do not need to do a relocate on the MAF, and everything else comes with the turbo...Call them, they are nice.
Then when you get it, give us a review on it since only the LSJ guys have it...

Cobalt 2.0 Performance
Could just get the zfr and have a nice boost ramp to it. Would be easier as far as install goes compared to the 20g. And wouldnt have to worry about getting a bov and switching to a blow thru maf.
