Jack up the front until the tires leave the ground
Start spinning one of the front wheels
If the other wheel start to spin in the same direction, you have LSD
If the other wheel start to spin in the opposite direction, you don't have LSD

I don't know if this is correct. I think that's an old-school rear-wheel drive, LSD rearend, test.

Limited slip diffs dont usually allow both wheels to rotate. Pretty sure thats a full locker.
You would have to overspin one of the wheels to activate the LSD weights.
As for the cobalt LSD in particular, get the part number of the transmission on your repair bill, call your dealer and ask which transmission it is. The parts catalog at gm will tell you, if it doesnt then oh well, i dunno.

Well, the only problem with that plan is that it won't prove anything unless you're going around a corner. My car doesn't have an LSD and it smokes both tires from a standing start. LSD only affects when you're turning. If you want to try to road test it hit a tight low speed curve and then punch it. If it roasts the inside tire you probably don't have an LSD equipped.

If you really want to be certain. its really very easy to see you just have to shine a light between the fuse box and the head down onto the top of the trans. you will see the top of the trans with the black plate with number. if they replaced it with a turbo charged cobalt trans with 3.82final drive, if it says 55564936 its an lsd transmission. if it has the numbers 55564935 you dont have an lsd.
