Manual Boost Controller Question

Ok, so basically I'm trying to install a manual boost controller on my stock turbo. Now, on turbo xs' website they show this turbo set up...

https://www.cobaltss.net/gallery/fil...2/9/turbo1.jpg

Now thats fine and dandy, but the stock turbo is a little different.

Can someone tell me what "THIS"/Yellow Highlight is and what it does/how it works? Thank you. :cssNET:

Also...would hooking it up like this work...

I haven't a clue. Thanks again...

i give up man. i pretty much got it figure out, but not enough to explain it. so i will let someone that understands it a lot more than i do explain it to both of us.

You actually want to install it like a Pill Mod. Refer to that thread, then insert your MBC in place of the Pill and Voila :)

I see you are tuned tho, this is a waste of time really and not needed! If you want more boost then 22psi that HPT allows, consult a local TF dealer and buy a underlay file, then have your tuner retune over that. MUCH better results and the car will drive WORLDS better.

iboost 12-06-2010 11:09 AM

So that would be one of them there HPT/Trifecta tunes? So then I just kinda wasted my money on this manual boost controller huh?

How does that HPT/Trifecta thing work?

BYT*SS*TURBO 12-06-2010 11:19 AM

Yea, you really wasted money on that thing. Im not sure why you would buy that.

With HP alone its easy to get 22psi, it doesn't hold it GREAT but it works just fine. If you want more, get the underlay file and the HP control over boost is a TON better. HP has no control over the Wastegate duty cycle, you hit a max point and thats it. With the TF file, he sets that much higher which makes all of the tables more "potent" and you can achieve anything you desire then. Well worth the money IMHO.

iboost 12-06-2010 11:22 AM

Does everyone who tunes with Trifecta know how to do this?

BYT*SS*TURBO 12-06-2010 11:27 AM

It appears not LOL. And some people try to charge you $300 like a regular tune, so be sure to check!! There is no logging at all, they just flash a file and leave. It also never needs be changed during the tuning session (unless there was an issue w/Vinces file for w/e reason). Your tuner then just keeps tuning as he normally would have. The only time you would need TF stuff again is if you happened to flash to stock, that TF portion will now be gone and can't be brought back with HPT alone ;)

iboost 12-06-2010 11:38 AM

Ok, well I still have my old TF files from Vince on my laptop, the only problem is when I put them to my car my ECM is locked and I can't do anything. Should I just have him send me another that isn't locked or something. Btw thanks for the help, sorry I don't know jack about this.

BYT*SS*TURBO 12-06-2010 11:39 AM

Do you have the cable?

Unfortunately with the boom of hybrid tunes, he doesnt offer that as a update anymore, its a new tune file. If you have the cable tho, you can just order the file from him, or myself if he won't sell it to you directly for w/e reason.

iboost 12-06-2010 01:28 PM

No unfortunetly I don't have a cable...do you have one I can borrow? ;)

BYT*SS*TURBO 12-06-2010 01:58 PM

If you come to PA LOL. Otherwise I think Vince rents them out. I can then sell you the files you need and you can load them from KY. ;)

It's a shame that HPT has not unlocked that table, because they really need to be tuned together. IMO, it is bad practice to rely on the ECU to make massive swings in WG duty cycles to compensate for target load. Likewise, I think it is poor practice to simply crank WGDC to 95%. I prefer to roll off load. If the target loads are significantly lower than 95% would cause, then it has to drastically compensate again.

Fortunately, for my purposes, the stock WGDC tables work fine for me. I'm not trying to get heroic amounts on the top end, on the stock turbo.

iboost 12-06-2010 02:17 PM

Alright man. I'll let ya know

Chevycobaltss3 12-06-2010 03:24 PM

Yeah I looked this over last night.. sam my car is tuned hptuners by me. I looked at my logs and my duty cylce maxes over 23lbs becuz,of fuel pressure. I can retune u. If ude like. And do remember u r unning meth. Just in case byt didn't see this so I can work alittle bit . My car has issues after 23 tho. It could be what iambroke had tho. Or the injectoe is out cuz before I got the car it was tuned t 30 pounds via hptuners by dumb ass hahn. I wouldn't mind doing hp/trifecta but I won't deal with.the.emailing bull. But like I said I will tune u for 23-24. Just cuz u have meth.

iboost 12-06-2010 03:56 PM

I'd like my 25psi back. From what I understand, you use the Trifecta just as the base and they HPT over it...so there won't be any emailing back and forth ya know. Just flash a Trifecta tune and we can be on our merry way HPTuning over it...

I understand but efficiency range just remember that .... sale u my turbo swap lol.

what you mean efficiency range...and no on the turbo swap  I don't have the coins.

Chevycobaltss3 12-06-2010 05:06 PM

Efficeincy range is the bounds that the turbo is best mening I think 22lbs actually is within the limits but after it creates a lot of heat I mean yeah u have meth but the compresser wheel is saying fu** u lol. To much of this and u can say,new turbo.

BYT*SS*TURBO 12-06-2010 06:43 PM

35psi is actually the limits really lol...

I ran 30psi for about 10k miles without an issue. A GM Tech came on stating that over 24psi on the stock pistons will cause failures. I haven't seen a significant gain in power going over 24-25psi tho on the dyno.

Stop driving your car hard until you get the fuel pressure raised ;)

tomj77 12-06-2010 11:44 PM

its not hard to figure out, pull the vac tube going from ur boost solonoid to the wastegate, get a 3 way tree and cut the vac hose that goes directly into ur intake manifold, put in tree, run vac line to boost controler then from boost controler to wastegate. very simple.

iboost 12-07-2010 07:55 AM

Thanks for all the info guys

Chevycobaltss3 12-07-2010 09:35 AM

Hey byt havz u seen the compressor map for the ko4+ , the efficiencey range. Ends and like 22-24 lbs, hard to tell because the damn map is so close together

BYT*SS*TURBO 12-07-2010 09:42 AM

I have. Between 3-4kish you can run 30-35 psi but you do need to be back around 20-21 by 6k. Not saying this is the best idea, just saying it CAN do that.

Chevycobaltss3 12-07-2010 09:46 AM

Yeah I understnd. it just sucks because a I swear I'm half line when looking at a compreaaor map because the shiz is so close together lol..
