Meth on 91 octane

This has been discussed many times.

Meth is usually not worth it on the SS/TC.

But thats because a lot of people run 93 octane. for us so cal losers, all we have is 91 octane.

So my question is would a meth kit be more useful to me because I have to run 91 octane?

discuss please.

I have a meth map you can use as a base if you need to down the road

methanol is a super high octane(116 octane). octane is resistance to detonation. typically used on high boost, high ignition timing applications. unless you are tuned for it, its not gonna do squat

you will need to tune it to realize the benefits of higher octane/knock resistance. The second ( and more important IMO) benefit when using stock hardware is the cooling of the air charge. IMO the stock intercooler is not effecient above stock power levels, and things start to heat up more quickly when you run 22 PSI.

For reference, i run 75% methanol at 3gph engaged at ~ 13psi. I tuned in about 1lb/min extra VE airflow (very roughly 10hp). That's all basically from timing and cooler charge.

guys...

this isn't an LSJ or supercharged app.

I have tuned a car for meth.... it honestly didn't do squat....

Me on 93 octane pulled 22.5 psi and 20* of timing without meth

Car I tuned... 93 octane and meth, 22.5 psi and 23* psi... and didn't make any more or less power than me at 20* so in my findings it hasn't really been worth the hassle!

maybe on a big turbo set-up this would be better?

also for safety reasons.

meth would help the octane for KR. 91 octane runs crappy with Toons from what ive been seeing.

meth would balance out the KR???

Meth would be useful either way. There are good gains to be had from meth injection as long as you are tuned for it. It allows a leaner A/F to be used along with increased ignition timing and cam timing that would normally cause tons of knock on pump gas. Meth tuned stock turbo Cobalts can trap 119-120 in the QM. I have thought about running it in my car, but I am undecided at this point.

You are knocking mainly because pychostevo's timing tables are not smooth enough. I have 17* of advance and a leaner mixture an I see no knock at all even in 97* and high humidity.

I saw the logs from an LNF solstice on the stock turbo pulling 33 lbs/min VE airflow with meth injectin and he was running only 17* of timing. The car was holding 239 kPa at 7400rpms. Same car same tune except for the meth and 2* less timing was seeing 28-29lbs per min. That extra 4 lbs/min is approx 40 HP.

Hey Matt, would you mind sending me the base tune for meth? Just like to see the differences, also considering picking up a meth kit from a buddy for cheap.

What he means is just a safer version of his tune. since he can't be there to data log constantly and since its not his car he doesn't want to blow it up.
