Methanol Injection thoughts

I was considering putting methanol injection in my cobalt but after doing some research I found that it might not be a good idea to use it on cars that have intercoolers. The theory behind this is that the charged air coming from the intercooler is already cooled to the point that all the methanol won't evaporate before entering the intake, which results in liquid in your intake.

Has anyone tried methanol in their LNF yet?

Even if all the methanol doesn't evaporate, how much liquid can really make it into the intake? it can't be large amounts. If anything it might just be a good way to clean the carbon off your pistons, valves and cylinders.

Opinions? Facts (would be more helpful)?

That's where this idea is coming from actually. I sent him an email already but haven't gotten a response yet. I saw your car on the page too.

I don't think you can ONLY run meth on FI cars but I know its alot more effective. Maybe Glenn can get some info from Fred at SMG on this.

You can run Meth on anything. I was looking into it when i was thinking about building a high compression motor for my Z. You just have to tune for it. the amount of Meth injected will be varied, so no liquid will get into the engine.

My car holds solid 21lbs of boost I think that when meth enters the piping it's just gonna get sucked up into the engine I think meth will work

Meth should work, if you have the timing to blow up the meth/gas mixture.

I think, meth would yield gains, but not as much as say a largre turbo would...that is the real bottle neck on these cars

Injectors ( injection window ) are the real problem we need more fuel up top so we can rev higher safely. Once we get over that hurdle there will be 500+ whp LNF out there until then we are stuck at about 400 whp max.

Water/meth is good an ANY FI application. esp ones with small turbo's spinning their ***** off and out of the efficiency zone.

It also helps with the injection window issue, as it's adding a few % of the fuel load upstream where is can be thoroughy atomized.
We used it on Sky888's car to help make 373whp at 20psi.

Bottom line: YES you should stick water/meth on your car. Keep the tank full. Get a progressive controller as well.
It makes LNF's happy!

Fred from SMG seems to think its a good idea too. I'm gonna try to get into his shop on Saturday the 7th for the kit and a tune. Stay tuned see what kind of power I put to the ground.

Update: I got a quote from Fred at SMG of $1145 to buy the methanol injection kit, have it installed and tune my car which includes one hour of dyno time. The only problem is he's pretty backed up right now in the shop. But this gives me more time to wait for my tax return money and to be in a better financial situation when we're both ready to do it. I'll let you guys know what happens.
