can't say it was a defect or improper instal but we had a cobalt come in with a blown motor and the tech just happened to take out the filter to look for metal and the nipple on the end was gone. Stick with delco. But do like I do there is usually deals where you buy the oil change jug and getthe mobil one filter free, take it lol. I have a stack of em.

The stores in my area dont carry the M1 filter for my car and they wont order it without me having to pay extra. I almost always find a deal with a free PureOne filter tho

Stick with AC Delco.. Its a perfectly good filter.. better than the majority of other brands... that and its what the manufacturer calls for.

I always use the Fram filter. Not really much choice of good filters in my area.

id advise from staying away from fram. reasoning being (not that it will happen to a normal car) but the filters collapse and they do a terrible job of filtering. search about it on google if you dont believe me.

My original gm filter was collapsed 1st oil change.. Here is what i figured out, the orings stick on the ends and when you unscrew the filter cap it twists the filter and gives a collapsed look, so infact the filter was fine before removing it..I suspect this is probably what tore the end off the filter end mentioned above..

The tech at work said that they crinkle like that because they need to seal good and they are supposed to do that.

Might have better flow, but what about filtering capabilities? I will almost pit money on it that the ac delco filters better.

I ran a fram once when I didnt have time to go the dealer. I took out the fram at 2500 miles due to it bothering me and wanting to switch to a slightly heavier oil. And the fram was already coming apart... Glad I didnt go 3500-5000 miles on it!!

Sticking to the delco ones despite the price

So explain how its physically possible to get greater flow AND better filtering?

Better filtering will always reduce flow because the pores in the filter media are smaller. Surface area can only be affected by the number of pleats of material in the filter. The filter size can't be increased because of hte size constraints of our filter housing.

Basically, anyone with oil or oil filter questions should go here: www.bobistheoilguy.com

because they are Made in China. That's why I stay away from Fram. Stick with ACDelco, Bosch makes good filters also.
