Mod recommendations?

Hi guys,

I just picked up a 2010 cobalt ss for my daily driver when my C6Z can't come out to play. I'm pretty familiar with these cars and have read plenty of posts. I can't leave the car stock, so I'll be going with the standard bolt-on mods and a trifecta tune. However, when it comes to what brand of parts to get, I'm torn. I'm looking for 300-310ish whp to satisy my own silly ego. Specifically, what brand of intake, intercooler, charge pipe and downpipe would you all recommend based on the current state of knowledge in this platform?

Thanks.

Get any brand bolt-ons, but stay away from Trifecta and get HP tuned.

Mods like charge pipes, intercooler, and exhaust don't gain you much but reliability. A good high flow downpipe drop in air filter and good hp tune can net you those numbers easy, especially if you have access to good gas.

Correct, also K&N air intake system is the most popular for the LNF.

In all my years of experience with these cars, if I had one that was stock and I was going to DD I would recommend:

K&N drop in filter
ZZP intake tube
Catless DP
HP tune

That's it. No more no less. Keep it simple and reliable for a daily

This, it will net your goals without over killing things or increasing the cost.

How's it going!

To piggy back off of what some other members said here are some Links to get you exactly what you want!

Ecotec Parts ZZP LNF Cobalt Upgraded Intake Tube

Ecotec Parts LNF Stainless Downpipe

Ecotec Parts K&N Replacement Air Filter

Ecotec Parts ZZP LNF Turbo PCM

This is a strong list for what you are looking for that will get you gains you are looking for while keeping your DD fun and reliable!

also, it is very important to get an intercooler. The factory ones have plastic end tanks that break extremely commonly.

Ecotec Parts LNF Front Mount Intercooler

And if you so choose, we also sell IC piping and the GMS1 sensors.

As other people have said, stay away from Trifecta tunes. We use HPTuners for all of our tunes here and can send you a PCM or email you a file if you have HPtuners.

if you have any questions feel free to email me at ryan.d@zzperformance.com or customerservice@zzperformance.com and we can go over more things if you'd like.

You might wanna skip the filter. OEM flows well enough without the hassle of cleaning and the chance if over oiling.

Downpipe and custom ramped HPtune, nobody has mentioned a clutch but you'll likely need one after some time.

Saying that, I made 380wtq for 2 years on stock clutch no problem. Hit or miss, a lot depends on how you drive and the tune

what he said as well. you want a great clutch get the GMPP Upgraded clutch. they say its for an LSJ and its the actual LNF clutch but its not. mine held an e85 tune for 3 years and its still going strong with the new owner lol.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I really appreciate it. I did plenty of searching, but most of the threads were several years old and I'm sure time has made you all wiser when it comes to different brands. I will definitely look into getting an HP Tune. I knew they were good, but I just wasn't sure who I could get to remote tune it for me. I'll contact kmo43 when I get the tuner. As of now, I'm thinking of an HP tune, K&N SRI, Injen hot side charge pipes, MPx intercooler, and ZZP downpipe. I was considering going catted due to inspections, but I may try to look for a local shop that will sweep that under the rug come inspection time. It would be 93 pump. What do you all think?

Also, in regards to the ZZP downpipe, if I go catless, which style do I want? No o2 bung, o2 bung or angled o2 bung? And will I have any problems with this exhaust connecting to the stock catback?

What year Z06 do you have? I had a 2006 for little while back in 08-09. Did you mod it much? I didn't do anything to mine but brakes for the track and a heel-toe pedal. I'll probably get another one some day. They give so much bang for your buck.

It's a black 2006 C6Z with a heads/cam setup. I went with the torquer 110 cam and I love it. Made 550/530 on the dyno. It's laughably good for the price, but causes major depression for me in the winter because until a few days ago, my daily was a 2002 Hyundai Accent that I've owned since my school daze. Now the SS is in the picture for a little more fun.

My daily driver when I had the Z06 was a 2006 Honda Civic EX (140HP). Talk about contrast. You'll really enjoy the SS. These cars are a blast.
