My CPPS switch failing?

Well the story starts, when I went to start my car last night. Put my foot all the way down on the clutch, car in nuetral and turned the key.....nothing. All my dash lights came on, and my radio came on, but no response from the engine at all. I tried turning the engine over 4-5 times unsuccesfully, until the car finally started. I have a damn good feeling this is due to my clutch pedal position switch.

My question is, has anyone else had this issue, and what was your fix? Has anyone gone thru the trouble of removing their entire steering column, and replacing this switch? Or maybe you just cleaned and adjusted it? I could use opinions as soon as possible, please. I can't have a car that doesn't run.

I have now discovered through GmDealerWorld that there are 2 CPPS switches, one for full release, and one for full depression. I am assuming it is the one for full depression that is failing, since it has to do more with my symtoms. Since I have to pull the whole pedal assembly though in order to do this, I am replacing both switches. My cost at the dealer is $5 a piece.
IF ANYONE ELSE HAS A SIMILAR, OR SAME PROBLEM, PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FIXED IT!

I actually had the same exact problem. I hated it, every time I fully pressed down the clutch and tried to start all my lights would come on but the engine wouldn't even crank. I figured just like you that it was a switch. So I immediately checked down by the clutch for the neutral safety switch and I pushed it with my finger a few times and whenever I did that the next time I pressed down the clutch the car would start. So I knew the problem was with the neutral safety switch. I took it into the dealer (warranty) and asked them to replace it and they told me a fuse had blown on the switch causing it to malfunction so they switched it out in a matter of 30 min and it was completely free. I would recommend checking that switch underneath your clutch and if that is causing the issue than bring it to the dealer if you still have warranty and you should be good. No need to remove steering column if this is the problem. It's a very cheap part and an easy fix. Hope that helps.

Hmmm I wonder which fuse blew? I work at a dealer, and haven't heard of any related fuses to the clutch pedal postion switch......Although your saying that it was you nuetral safety switch, which is the clutch pedal position switch directly on the backside of the pedal, then the other one on top of the pedal I can't figure out the purpose for yet ;-)

I should've asked so not to sure (they just said well... the switch is malfunctioning due to a blown fuse) but the switch was the one in the top/back where the pedal touches when fully depressed. I'm sure you're familiar lol but that's about it, they simply just had to swap out the switch and I was good to go. Is your engine cranking at all or is it the same as I described when only the lights come on but nothing else?

those switches are sensative, if you ride the clutch to much it will set a code....clear all the codes and watch your driving, if you dont ride the clutch and it comes back then replace the one on the pedal. its a bitch though

No codes at all. I checked all my underhood, and in-car fuses, all good. I don't ride the clutch either, I learned how to drive through BMW driver school at Watkins Glen for a summer. According to my instructor, when making trips around the track, I was shifting 80-85% "properly" whatever that means.

The car wouldn't crank, but yes all my dash lights came on, and when it did finally decide it wanted to crank, it fired right up without hesitation.

The other switch disengages the cruise if you push in the clutch.

^^ Ahhh that makes more sense. I will be replacing both of these sensors shortly later in the week. I plan on taking picktars, and possibly making a How-To thread on this. Think anyone will have any interest in this?

SlobaltSS/C Did you ever get around to making a HOW TO on replacing the CPP switch? My cruise haven't worked in 2 years. I purchased the switch but every attempt to install it has failed. I can see the switch but cannot for the life of me get my hand in there. I followed directions on ALLDATADIY.com but they make no sense.
Says to start by removing the Clutch pedal pivot nut, which is barely reachable by an open end wrench, but the other side where a bolt head should be is actually round and flat, so it just spins and I can't grip it with any vice grips nor pliers.

PLEASE HELP!!!

remove the under dash panel and snake your arm in through the area where the trunk release door is. Might take some practice but I've done it twice like that. No need to remove anything major

Thanks for the reply. This doesn't seem to be possible on this model. It is equipped with the premium pioneer sound system. The amplifier is blocking my access. I tried removing it but it doesn't seem to budge.
Any other thoughts?
