Need help ASAP! Gotta problem
Ok guys,
So over the weekend I filled my car up from a 1/4 tank twice. Both times I did this when I got back in the car and tried to start it, it simply keeps cranking.
After I let it crank about 3 times for about 2-3 seconds each time it will finally start. After that first start its fine though, any ideas?

could be fuel pump or the fuel filter which has happen to someone who is completly stocked in my area. fuel filter could be the issue take to the dealer and have them fix it. fuel pump could go out because you allow your car run 1/4 everytime you refuel which is bad for the injectors and fuel pump. I never let my car run empty unless I'm cleaning the internals and I'm at 8500 miles without issues with either fuel pump or filter.
Yeah I heard that your not really suppossed to let your car run past 1/4 of a tank because it's not the best for the car.
I'd check the fuel pump or something that seems to be the leading cause with any fuel related problems with our cars

I just threw a code though something about the fuel pressure regulator. I picture this being bad....

edit: just read the whole thread lol
The 1/4 tank rule is for older vehicles, I have ran mine to E and had no problems. Your pump has a screen and you have a fuel filter and as long as you keep up maintenance on the filter you should have no problems as far as sediment in the fuel. I'm guessing the 1/4 tank problem is just a coincidence and it's really just your evap.

The 12608378 is an old number. It changed to 12592015. The new number is a few cents cheaper. But, since your buying one I would go for the newest number. GM will let you order either one. They have plenty of stock of each.
The problem has nothing to do with having a 1/4 tank. It's putting the tank to full thats the problem. P0496 is a dtc for the purge solenoid being stuck open. The purge soleniod purges fuel vapors in the gas tank to the engine, when the pressure rises too high. Your purge soleniod is stuck open. So when you fill your gas tank to full the fuel is being sucked through the purge solenoid and flooding the engine. You can test it before you start spending money if you have a vacuum pump. Remove the purge solenoid from the vehicle. Takes no time at all to do. Put the vacuum pump to the intake manifold side of the purge solenoid. Pump the vacuum up to 20hg. If it dosent hold vacumm or wont allow a vacuum to pull, its bad. If you dont have a vacuum pump you can try the less perfered method and suck on it. If you can suck any air through it at all, its bad. Not highly recommended, as there will be oil and fuel on it. But i can almost tell you 100 percent it's the purge solenoid. If it was the circuit causing the problem it should have set a different dtc.
had a 08 lt bolt for 3 years and never had a prob letting mine go down. also never had never put in reg. gas always put in 91 octain and my new 09 ss/tc has never had a prob doing it eather. also my girly has a hhr and same thing no probs and she is pushing 70,000 miles

sure these fuel pumps are designed to put up with abuse, but there's one fact that doesn't change;
- the fuel pump is cooled by the gas it's supposed to be submerged in.
- if you constantly run to bone dry, your fuel pump will burn out faster than some one who doesn't do that.
