I just bought an '08 TC with 125mi on it two weeks ago. Odo now reads 1800mi and the rotors (including outside surface) look like a DJ record and squeal like nails on a chalkboard.

Problems with the rears have been well reported around here on most '08s and some '09s. Unfortunately Chevy won't acknowledge any problem, so warranty coverage has been like pulling teeth.

Knew this was going to be a problem before I bought the car so I already have money set aside for improved brakes and rotors. I just want to make sure that by replacing pads and rotors I will indeed solve the problem, and that the calipers aren't an issue. Some have chimed in and said caliper pins have insufficient lubrication and that the inside pad wears unevenly and prematurely.

Just lube up the sliders on the rears if they dry and that's the case.

It's only 2 bolts holding the top portion of the caliper on. 18mm, or was it a 16mm... meh

Couldn't be happier with my R1 Concept rear rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Great looking, and judging from others' experience, they should hold up great.

You still running stock rotors on the front? Any issues with brake bias?

What pads are you going to use for the front?

No dust shields and no issues with Hawk HPS rear pads after ~18k miles now. It's the factory pads.

the factory pads are a soft compound if i remember .. which is further exacerbated by the fact that there is no dust shield

My inside pads and rotors just got grooved like crazy and started suddenly squealing like it was metal to metal not the normal cold brakes. Must have gotten some junk in there or something but I wasn't about to take the wheels off in the rain for a closer look. Pads were about 1/2 worn inside and outside at 22.5k miles.

Either way dealer replaced the pads and rotors under warranty no questions asked. Took 3 business days to get parts.
