new turbo for LNF?
new turbo for LNF?
im just throwing this out there for discussion. don't know if is has been posted already.
So my dad works in the Engineering Department for GM and just recently traveled to the factory that makes the LNF. I was talking to him about it a little bit and he said that they were changing the turbo on the LNF from the borg warner to a mitsubishi. Apparently he talked to the people that worked on the line and they said the borg warner is a lot better turbo than the mitsubishi. I don't really know anything else about it, that is all he really told me.
Just wanted to know if anyone else had heard about this and what people thoughts were on it.

No way K04 is a twin scroll Mitsubishi doesn't make anything that would suite the current configuration of the LNF. It wouldn't be cost effective.
Yeah , more likely something else , the Cobalt ends in 2010 so , I am pretty sure it would be for another platform .

im not sure what model of car it is for. i know the factory was in tennessee and it was a saturn factory. i assumed that they probably made all of the lnf's in the same factory but i know for sure it was a saturn factory he went to.
It would be cost effective cuz i bet they are cheaper to make than Bw :P
I think GM has learned even the K04 is too much on the LNF with stock everything so they may just slap a smaller snail in it to discourage people like us from turning the boost up. I think the Td04 would produce 260/260 almost fully maxed out. No room for turning the boost up ... They do use these in a few SAAB models . But again thats SAAB not Chevy... I doubt Chevy would want anything with the name Mitsubishi on it ..
This feels to me like a cost cut that cuts into quality. I'd take a Borg Warner over a Mitsubishi any day. I feel like this is one of those get-what-you-pay-for areas, and a precision thing like a turbo is not something you can really afford to go cheap with and have it last.
My family has never had anything but bad luck with Mitsubishi products. VCRs breaking within a week, brand new car having its engine seizing up driving it home the first time right off the lot, finding a bolt in the oil pan, constant oil leaks, etc.
I'm never buying another Mitsubishi product after all I've been through with them. They've had several chances.

not sure if im correct, but isn't 2010 the last year for the ss/tc. if it is, then it definately wouldn't be going on them. gm does all of their factory switchovers then first 2 weeks of july. what i mean by that is that they change over their entire factory for the new model year in july. with it being almost june, they might just have started getting the mitsubishi turbos in and aren't putting them on the engines yet, just stocking up on them for the model change in july.

Probably another engine. As emissions get more stringent and people wanting to keep their power too, there will be more and more turbo options from the factory as time goes on.
thats what I mean. THe tc/ss is done, theres no more current gen lnf's for cars. so this is for a new model. From what I read its still rumor the buick gets a lnf.
Can you see grandpa yelling at grandma " Holy **** we are getting into boost now !
LOL the way a turbo car drives compared to NA is just night and day. TD04 a way to tame the beast LNF ...
luj????
the buick regal is already out in china and they are offering the LNF in it over there. he also said that the lnf with the mitsubishi turbo is replacing the current lnf with borg warner in all models.

An Asian turbo on a Buick actually makes sense because Buick is a big deal in Asian countries, such as China. It's one of the reasons Buick got past the chopping block. Local hardware=lower costs.
Edit: lol.. beat me to the China connection ^

Yeah that does make sense , keep the cost down , it is possible these are for all Asian models .
That TD04 is a huge disappointment , this is the only turbo they make that would match so the most you could get out of it is 285 HP at best with all supporting mods.
If the Cruze has this turbo most would consider a swap immediately and I am counting on it NOT having this turbo at least for SS models.

im not really supposed to be giving out this information. hope he doesn't lose his job over this.

Also with AWD and that "lnf" it isnt going to be very fast...

The other problem I'd forsee would be more restrictive manifolds/head because of the smaller turbo from the factory too. Means you'd need to spend more money freeing it back up again.
I don't really care that much even if they put the LNF in it with out the turbo as long as it has AWD , You can always get a ZZP kit , should be a bad ass car , not sure about the around "the ring" I think it is going to lack a lot of the characteristics of a cobalt , the weight displacement among other things , I just can sense body roll and all sorts of stuff , but the interior etc will make up for the handling and speed , you can make it fast shave it mod the appearance a little and it would be more appealing , they need to have an ALL BLACK version, 20 inch chrome plated wheels should take some weight off the linkage too rofl

This is a mid sized sedan with the European thought. I don't think it is a "rally" car . SO completely different types of cars. I can promise with some mods a few people will be taking on evo's
The Syclone & Typhoons are still running the same transaxle and gearbox , some of them with over 1000 HP ..
Pretty sure the GS will stick it to the ground pretty good under high load .
