Unhappy Not having great luck with K&N Typhoon Intake.

So I bought the new K&N intake, installed it last week and love it. I love the sound and the looks. A well put together piece and it really completes my engine bay.

The problem are my long and short term fuel trims. No matter where I rotate the cone filter (12:30, 12:00, 9:00, 6:00 etc, etc, etc) the trims are horrible. Data logged it and the stft's are all over the place... -9, +10, 0... they sit at +3 at idle. Ltft's seem to just keep rising and sit around +15! Before, I had the drop-in K&N and my fuel trims were almost perfect (stft were around 0 to +/-3 and ltft never went higher than +1).

I'm HPT tuned, Dejon charge pipes and catless... I guess it's time for ANOTHER retune

Any thoughts on this at all? Seems like everyone else has had no issues or minimal changes occur to their fuel trims.

ive heard of this happening to other people where their trims were off because of the intake, you might need a retune.

My trims are the same with or with out the intake. They set at -3.1. By they I mean the ltft.

Do you pull the battery negative terminal between each rotation of the filter to reset it? Also with any intake to get really good trims you will need a tune.

The k&n drop in normally runs around -5 ltft if you were tuned for the drop in that could be your problem. I usually see +5ltft with the SRI and i'm not tuned for it. When it was warm out i was around +3

Yeah, I pull the negative battery cable every time. I log about a 30 minute drive between country roads onto the highway and into the city. Pretty much my everyday drive to and from work. I logged when it was 30 degrees out and also when it was a bit warmer at around 60 degrees. Always the same result... I just watch the ltft start at 0 and creep up to +15. It's heartbreaking.

Retune time :/

wow thats crazy. Only time I saw +15 or higher was when I had a boost leak on the lower charge pipe!

Im untuned so it might just be the after effect of putting an intake on a tuned car? Im at -3.1 to -2.3 for LTFTs right now. I've seen stft's spike up to like +7.0 a few times but not long enough to increase my LTFTs.

Verify this for me, Do you see changes in fuel trim from different filter rotation positions?

also do you see your positive stft spikes at partial throttle?

I don't think I have a boost leak. No drivability issues or codes.

The stft spikes a little here and there during part throttle. Also when I'm just cruising too. I'll see spikes of +7/+10 to -6ish.

When I rotate the filter, the only change is how quickly the Ltft's fall out of whack. The more I rotate from the 12:00 position toward the 9:00 or 6:00, the quicker it falls out of spec.

its because you were tuned for the drop in filter. if you were on the stock tune you wouldnt be having issues with the k&n. so you need a retune.

ya mine is like yours, pretty good. partial throttle is pretty good for me when it got colder, it got way better.
