Opinions on stripped meth fitting inlet

i stripped the tapped inlet for what i think is the check valve for my meth setup. the hole is located about halfway down the upper charge pipe and the fitting looks like this AIS Check Valve Fitting - 1/4 NPT To 1/4" O.D. Tubing its the one farthest to the left

what are your guys opinions on the best way to fix this? will a welded piece of aluminum over the stripped hole hold 25-30 lbs? i dont think AIS sells a larger fitting that i could just retap in the pipe. i wonder if i could find some kind of adapter that expands the size from 1/4 to 3/8 or something

They make weld in NPT bungs, so you could go that route or weld your existing hole shut like you previously mentioned.

Get a 1/4 NPT bung welded in

If i ever have my Charge pipe out again i shall be doing this also

alright thanks guys. ill be making a trip to ace hardware and see what i can find. ill prob just go the lazy ass route and get a 1/4" female to 3/8" male and use a ton of thread locker.

once i fix this and test for any more leaks, its headin west to term2's crib and back to 24 psi :guns:

Take the charge pipe out and fix it properly buy having the proper bung welded in place. Have some pride in your car and the work you do on it! It will reward you in the long run.

you're right. wouldnt it be easier just to weld a nut onto it? have to find someone that is willing to weld aluminum to steel

weld a bung like mentioned or get a 1/4 npt helicoil.

Yeah that works too. Just doesn't look great.

I have to do the same thing with my charge pipe so I can install my Meth Kit.

JB Weld

JustACobalt 07-09-2011 09:27 AM

jb weld the existing hole or jb weld a bung in there?

BYT*SS*TURBO 07-09-2011 09:46 AM

I think he was kidding but it COULD work. JB doesn't hold up well to vibes tho so I would recommend against that honestly.

Best bet is as suggested, get a bung welded onto the CP where the hole currently is, it will give you more threads for the fitting to grab into and stay put!

Tell David I said Hi! Haven't seen him on in a bit :(

JustACobalt 07-09-2011 10:32 AM

haha i wouldnt use jb weld on the charge pipe anyway. im just going to get a weld in aluminum bung from vibrant and use that. ill tell david you said hi tho when i see him
