other budget performance mods
Op, I can relate completely to you, and appreciate someone who actually pursues the real hidden power, not just the "get a tune" LNF idiots on this site. I had a lot of little 'trick' mods in my SS, and the car was quite a bit stronger than the average car with the same mods on paper, people on here can vouch for that.
My advice to you in that regard, since I haven't had the chance to dig into an LNF yet, is try it and find out. There isn't an established community here like there is in the LS1/LS2 world, I've done some of the stuff you mention from your GTO on my dad's 03 Sierra, its only a little 4.8 but it runs a ton better than most 5.3s out there with almost no money into it.
Then you don't understand the concept of modding or tuning. Stick to your bolt-ons and aftermarket support, and you will be fine. Leave the exploratory stuff to the guys who like it. They are always the ones who are just a little faster than the rest.

wtf are you smoking? i have lots of cheap mods on my car, it now has 73,000 miles on it and runs decent. "cheap" does not mean bad quality. the OP is looking to improve little bits of everything, which is EXTREMELY intelligent. stfu or get out.
i say again........wtf is the point in a FWD drag car??? U will get 3x further with your money on the 1/4 with something RWD. I said it before and yes I WILL say it again, the Cobalt Turbo LNF was made to the point where the only mods worth while are specific bolt on's with a tune. Exhaust/Intake/Charge Piping/Downpipes/Turbo Swaps, it's all been talked about lots on here already.........find a night where u can just poke around the LNF section on here and read the technical threads that have already been thru all this. As well I would try the Solstice/Sky forums too, they've got a stronger aftermarket for the LNF as it was released before the Turbo Cobalt. If it's gunna gain you anything, someone on that forum has done it.
free mods are always a good thing.
A few dollars worth of header tape or heat shields will keep heat in places it should be and out of places it shouldnt be, if you got creative you could probably fabricate some extra baffling for the cooling system that did a better job of making sure air actually goes through your intercooler and rad as opposed to around it, By yourself a container of GM dielectric grease(it comes in a little jar) or Nye Lubruicants 760G(this is what the GM stuff is) or Nye 8917(I cant find this easily) and spread a light coating over the terminals in every connector you can find and properly use/release.(I'd avoid the big ECM connectors though) This will help reduce corrosion and high resistance caused by vibration/movement of the terminals, it will make the connections last longer, perform better and be easier to service at later dates if needed. This is absolutely most overlooked, easy to do, cheap maintenance you can do to your vehicle.

We race FWD cars for fun. If the goal was to go fast for the least amount of work or money, then we would all buy used bikes and go run 10s for $5k. Or we could all have '70 Novas with nitrous big blocks running high 9s for 10 grand. The truth is that we drag race for fun and because we enjoy the challenge.
Why do people run marathons when they could drive that distance in in about 20 minutes?

btw, if anyone wants to keep arguing with me, just remember

x2 someone who ACTUALLY knows wat they are talking about
hey assface, go try and impress ppl by insulting me elsewhere, errrr wait nvm, just GROW THE *** UP. I said it once and I'll say it again, the LNF is not gunna gain you much of anything doing $2 mods.........stick with the basic bolt ons to start and THEN start experimenting with little things......ppl gotta STOP trying to reference the LNF to other engines.....there is only really 2-3 engines even CLOSE to similar, the Subie/Boxer Engine, the CSRT-4 Engine, and the MS3 Engine.........if u wanna learn wat $2 mods work, i'd start looking into their forums and then share anything u learn with the ppl on the solstice/sky forum as I'm sure they have 2x as many tech minded ppl on there.

the intake manifold ports and the intake ports on the head are not perfectly matched.
you can gain a quicker spool up by porting the exhaust manifold, exhaust housing and 02 housing.
INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE. what part of THAT sentence do you not understand.
listen here kid. i have been in this game a lot longer than you have been driving. so when you get the ******* attitude of mr know it all. you had better know it all before you step up to the plate.

whitesstc, you really have no idea what you are talking about nor who you are talking too. it is readily apparent from other posts/threads you have made that you are an idiot. please do not bring others to the fail side
please explain to me how the ss/tc platform is so ungodly different than the majority of cars on the road. please. there are always little free/cheap things you can do to improve on performance, track times, etc,
QTF!!!!!!!!

Oh that's right if someone doesn't agree with you they must be a kid right? It's a public forum, I can say whatever i want buddy, i could tell a new LNF owner to get an intake that connects to his AC if i wanted........tho i'm sure instantly i'd have mechanically minded ppl on here correcting me. I have no problem being corrected but I won't believe it or listen to it till i see the results on paper to prove it was worth the work. I have a friend who is a GM tech that built an LSJ up till he cracked the block, he did EVERYTHING possible to that car and he still wasn't in the 12's, porting, polishing, retuning, meth, slicks, he did it all, so don't question my motives on how i answer questions, if u disagree i'm sure u can do it without outright insulting me because u have nothing better to do.........i said it b4 I'll say it again GROW THE *** UP.
end of story.
you are a kid. mature adults who buy cars do not make posts on forums stating "who wants to go drifting!?!"
yes, that stands out to me as a real mature, adult thing to do with a street car, in a public parking lot.
you have brought it all upon yourself. you just keep adding to the fire.
the LNF is not a V8, alot of things u can do for power on a V8 will not apply or apply as much if any on the LNF. I'm no mechanic, i pick up on wat vendors like TTR and tuners like psychosteve post up, that's how I learn, from ppl who own the cars and have played around with them alot........i don't see area47 with an ss/tc or an LNF for that matter, far as i know he has an ss/sc which responds differently to mods.
silly me

I wouldn't be tellin "spaz" that he doesn't know who to tune or build a car, he was probably one of the first to get approx 400whp on the LSJ and is currently building up his Turbo Trans Am, last i heard he was only running 7PSI and was about to install a meth kit on it, personally I expect to see him in the 12's this summer.
yup keep it comin, i gots allllllllllll day long

i never said i didn't do that. kids do that. i do not. what were you doing 15 years ago. not driving?
thought so.
sure. get him on here, i will be more than happy to tell you and him that it was no where near 400whp without a turbo, or nitrous. if you think it takes an lsj "400whp" to hit 12's you're on some serious drugs. let alone an lsj making 400whp on an m62 without a bottle isn't going to happen.
