Please help .. p0100
Hey guys, I have a p0100 code thrown.... MAF sensor.
Car:
2009 Yellow SS Sedan
55000 miles on it
All stock except K&N drop-in (54000 miles on it)
a little history... 2 days ago I had the oil changed and sometime later that day the engine light came on. Its not building boost much at all, maybe 5lbs in 3rd/4th and nothing in 5th.
I go home and swap out the K&N with the original air filter that came with the car (it had less than 1k miles on it). Now its building boost but the light is still on.
So i took it into the shop and they said it was a bad MAF sensor but would cost $200 to replace it (200 dollar deductible on my extended warrenty). I tell'em i can do better and order one from O'reilys.
Today I go swap it out and have them clear the code. And after restarting it about 3 times the code comes back. At this point I have them order another (I'll swap it out tommorrow afternoon).
My question to you guys is .. "What will cause this code when you're sensor is working fine?"

Sounds like you over oiled the filter. It's supposed to be a very light coating of oil, and you need to let it dry a bit before running the car.
If you've already run the car, I doubt you can clean it off the MAF since it'll be baked on. You can try though. Just get a can of MAF/electronics cleaner. You need to spray it all the way up into the MAF where the itty bitty wire is. Spraying the plastic doesn't do anything.

i've not cleaned filter in some time. i have a new MAF installed. and the p0100 comes on during the 3rd start after the code is cleared, when its first started and idleing no boost what so ever.
Like I said int he other section... it could be a boost leak. If you had the oil changed by someone they could have loosened one of the charge pipes or get to the oil filter. Usually a boost leak is P0101 but mine threw both the p0101 and p0100 when I was tuning for the BOV
you could have a small crack in the IC, or a CP is loose...anything. Look everything over. What are you actually boosting to? Can you hear air moving or leaking out more than normal when boosting?
When my CP blew off, it was loud as **** and wouldnt boost.

Its still not a good idea to use an over oiled filter, dont get me wrong - but its probably not the OP's issue.
IIRC when my endtank was cracked this was the code it threw, although it threw some other code as well. GM replaced the MAF sensor first, which didnt fix it, then discovered the crack in the end tank.
Since you just had your oil changed, its quite possible they drove it up on the lift (or do they use pits there?), and hit that infamous bar at the bottom of the intercooler. If its loose/hanging down, you have a cracked end tank and I would raise hell with the oil change place.
K&N did a test where the completely submerged the MAF in oil, and once they pulled it out and hooked it up, it read just fine once the excess burned off. So yes, temporarily you can get a bad reading that will cause problems, but only for as long as the excess oil is still coming off the filter, and it doesnt take long to pull all the excess off at full throttle.
