Quick Question

Ok, I'm probably going to get flamed for this pretty bad, but what exactly is the "pill mod"? I've never heard of this and when I searched for it, I didn't find anything. Can anyone fill me in on this topic? All I know is that it's kinda like a MBC..

Pm byt he's running it. I can kinda explain it but I don't wanna be wrong. I know it has to do with a welding tip and you insert it into a line that goes to the turbo n what not. U won't get flamed this isthe reason forums exist. But of course there are some dumb ***** that will be like haha u noob **** em though

Welding tip in the waste gate tube. You have to be tuned for it, so don't try it unless you are going to tune the car for it.

I'm not saying I'm going to be trying it, I'm already getting a 3076 for the car anyways, I was just wondering what it does and how it works.. I've never heard of this except from a few people that have mentioned it.

it basically just raises u boost, like a boost controler, why they dont just run a tune with higher psi instead of waisting time doing that since they have to tune it anyway, i dont know. sounds like a exrta step that doesnt have to be there to me.

A small opening MIG welding tip, like an .030 for instance inserted in one of the lines going to the boost control solenoid restricts the flow slowing the opening of the wastegate and raising the boost. You need to be able to reprogram the Desired Air Load table (DAL) with HP Tuners ect to control the amount of boost.

This is a workaround since we don't have wastegate control in the HPTuner's software. It raises boost in the midrange the most (at least mine does). The boost still tapers off as you approach redline when the turbo gets tapped out.

The welding tip is nicknamed the pill.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thank you!! I now understand. That's a good idea, but does it make the turbo unefficient running at such higher boost levels? I heard our turbos are only efficient to 23psi.

That's why it runs out of gas up top, it gets off the sweet part of the curve.

There is a thread on it in the tuning section.

BTF claims the stock turbo is efficient to 35psi in the low-mid range. You need to be back around 20-22 by 6K.

That's good stuff. Any dyno sheets to show the performance of this setup?

Yup. ~50whp thru the midrange gain, minimal up top on my last dyno session.

You must have turned the clutch plate into sticky stuff.

If I get brave....

There are tables not accessible to us with HPT so the only way to get more than 22 psi boost is to fool the boost control solenoid into thinking it has less boost than actual so it will raise the output.

Some call it a problem, others an opportunity. I prefer to work on my own tune, thank you.

It is these so called problems that create innovation and new ideas. I would never recommend the pill mod to anyone who does not have access to, or is not a competent tuner.
