Race gas question

I'll just start this off by saying I may be asking a very stupid question, so no flaming please. And yes, I searched the forums before posting.

Anyway, I'm in the process of rebuilding the motor for my 95 talon awd (only 4 months later, haha) and I'm itching to go to the drag strip. I took my cobalt (08 ss tc) autocrossing a few weeks ago and it handled about on par with my 03 evo i had! I ended up getting 3rd place in my class and it was only the second time I've been autocrossing.

So, there is a BBQ event at Island Dragway (NW NJ) in a few weeks and I wanted to bring the cobalt. It has no performance mods (except maybe for the short shifter and better street tires) and I already raced it like this last season (in like October in 40 degree weather). So I wanted to try to get a few extra ponies in and get a decent time. I'm going to empty out the entire car, including the subwoofer and maybe even the rear seats if I have time. So I was just wondering if I put in a few gallons of VP's C16, would the ecu advance the timing any for me to gain extra HP? Or would I have to get it tuned to run with the higher octane to see an improvement? I know this may be a dumb question, but I'm not familiar with the new technology in these cars so I don't know how it will react. Just a thought.

Thanks!

its only going to "give you more timing" if you are currently having timing pulled due to detonation.

Race gas will work IF you have a turbo upgrade on your 08'\TC... I've had the chance to get my car tuned\dynoed on both 91 octane (it's all we have in the west\southwest) and 93 octane... guess what? There's no real pwr gain (maybe 1-2 whp) but other than that none... so there's no need to even use 93 octane

93 octane is not race gas. 100+ octane is...

Race gas will work if you have the means to tune.

Stock turbo, aftermarket turbo etc etc

Anyone say it was?

He was simply saying there is minimal difference between 93 and 91

no one was also talking about 91 or 93 octane difference. so it makes it seem as though he is confusing 93 octane as race fuel...
