rear mount TURBO?

Wouldn't it be better to move the turbo to the back of the car such as and sts set up. I don't think it would be all that hard either.

Do you like your turbo to spool when you hit the gas or the following day?

2 major problems with that...

1. The amount of piping required to feed the exhaust to the back of the car, to the intercooler, and then back to the intake manifold would have to be upwards of 20 feet when all is said and done.

2. The lag would be incredible since the pressure would have to build up in many, many feet of piping before the turbo would spool. Also the loss of exhaust temp on its journey to the back of the car would only further increase the lag. I cant even begin to imagine what it would be like to drive something like that.

It could theorectially be done but it would be a massive waste of money and a negative gain for you. Ideally you want to reduce the distance exhaust has to travel to get to the turbo. Thats why Turbos are always located so close to the exhaust manifold.

I am curious however as to what made you ask the question? Did somebody tell you this is a good idea?

Those kits CAN work... BUT!!! Those kits are usually used on V8 cars of generous displacement and a relatively high static compression ratio. Both of those items reduce the effect of turbo lag considerably (IOW the engine already has enough power to roast the hides when off boost). Hope this helps.

For our smaller displacement engines, You'd be looking at an EPIC fail

why not instead of that make a combustaion chamber connected from the compresser out back to the exhaust side of the turbo, feed it fuel, and an ignition and u got a jet engine. yay. anyone try that yet? might give u enough thrust to push a gocart

I dont understand this at all, why in the hell would you want to mount your turbo at the back? That would be like putting a supercharger on the exhaust side to suck out exhaust or something...

I hear there is this little insert you can put in your intake to make the air spiral and give you better powa and gas mileage too...

Now tell me those aren't some of the most AMAZING sounding cars you've ever heard. STS rear mount turbo kit whistles FTW!

And yes, I realize those are both 8-cyl cars....but like I said before.....theres a 2.2 on here running a custom STS setup making damn good hp numbers. I'll search for him and end this little debocale once and for all....

there's less piping used because you don't need an intercooler and it stays cooler because it's not under the hood close to the exhaust manifold
also the lag isn't any worse than on a regular setup
