rev limiter/ back fire at 5200 RPM?!?!

I have a 2008 ss/tc and as far as mods go it has: drop in K&N, Synapse charge piping and catless downpipe. I've been noticing lately and than intentially tonight that when im in the top of 2nd gear at about 5200 RPM that its back firing bad, like popcorn. I'm doing the no-lift shifting, but i thought i still have about 1000 RPM before the rev limit. This also happens in third at roughly the same RPM. Didn't get to try it in 4th or 5th. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I was thinking the downpipe mighta done something.

sounds more like it's breaking up man, either leaning out, or spark blow out

My car used to do that, right about the same rpms, when it was fairly stock. I think its mainly plugs/detonation issue, but i've never really found a specific fix.

i just put new spark plugs in, direct replacements from Auto Zone. Is there a way I can have something done under warranty or is this a SOL case?

From what i understand and what ive heard that is the charicteristic of a perfect no lift shift. it should pop one time.
Thats what some gm engineer or spokesperson said. If you search the forums i think there is something else on it here. I am a chevy tech, mine does the same thing, i search for bulletins on the matter and couldnt find anythign , so i m going to assume what
I heard about the pop is true. HOpe this is helpful

no. i try to get close to 6000 RPM, and then do the no lift shift, which i get one exhaust pop. However now when i reach 5200 RPM it starts popping and I shift at that point because if I don't it starts popping like crazy... like popcorn. I can't get to 6000 RPM

JimZ, I didn't notice the problem until recently. It was mere coincidence that i changed the plugs (not because of the back firing problem), however that may be it. Im gonna clean the original ones and put them back in and see what happens.

Gotcha. When you pull them, keep track which cylinder the plugs came out of, recheck the gaps and look for any hairline cracks in the porcaline and of course the color of the plugs. Hmm...any water in the fuel?

COULD be a combo of downpipe and plugs. Do plugs first and see what happens.

Coming from an RSX-S I know they had leaning problems when going to race headers.

Could also be that the plugs are gapped too wide...
