So is my SS/TC the first to spit a spark plug out of the head
Just like the title says, car has 147,000 miles and last week #4 spark plug decided it didn't like where it was living and decided to exit the little home it had, ruined the coil too. Just wanted to know if mine was the first anyone had heard of here. I have had a misfire since 70000 that I have not been able to find but it was always cylinder #2. This happened under load 5th gear at about 45 miles per hour and about 1/2 throttle. I fixed it but now thinking of getting rid of it since I'm a bit tired of this car and don't have to commute so I might be looking at the CTS-V or 2013 M5.
Never heard of it on a Cobalt, but it happened to my buddy's 01 Mustang GT. We still can't figure out why or how it happened, nothing looked damaged. He threw in a new plug and hasn't had any issues since.
the plug threads strip from spark plugs either not tight enough, or overtightened. sucks. The hole can be helicoiled. It happens to Ford engines so much there is an aftermarket kit for it...
I know Ford trucks and Expeditions had a history of this all the time. I know 3 people that it has happened to.

More than likely I will drive the Cobalt till the end of the year and then order an M5 the damn thing will be almost as fast 0-60 as my Z was when it was stock pretty incredible really. I pretty much know I won't get a CTS-V because of the squareness I just can't get into it and gas mileage sucks but they are beasts with a pully and tune.
Honestly in my opinion Chevy needs to make the CODE 130R and make it a car that can compete with the 1M small rear wheel drive car that can hand some ass to the imports. I think they want buyers to vote whether people want them to make a small rear wheel drive car.

hi so i am currently in the same boat as you 114000 miles on my 05 cobalt ss/sc and i was doing about 65 on the high way a mile from my exit when spark plug number 4 decided it wanted to join you. 5th gear not even half throttle. also my spark plugs were loose i dont know how because last time the plugs were replaced they were all tight. i guess this is something to watch out for.
mileage on a car like an M5 or CTS is an issue?

Just wait till your first service bill on your fancy M5 then
the 130r... omg just when I thought they couldn't make the solstice any gayer. They blow me out of the water.

You have the highest mileage SS/TC known bro. 2008/09/10? Have you ever seafoam'd it? Original clutch? Stock Intercooler/charge pipes/rubber bpv? Type of tune if any? Also stock spark plugs at time of incident?
I'm very curious to see how the cars hold up over time. Any details are much appreciated.

The Cobalt is an '08 completely stock other than pedders coils and has had the **** driven out of it. Had OEM plugs but they were the third set and never sea foamed. Other than the struts, shocks and tires everything is original I'm on my 6th set of tires if that is any indication of my driving habits and it's not so much from spinning tires off the line I don't really ever try to launch the car.
Not long after the spark plug incident I had to replace the head gasket and secondary timing chain.

I don't want the first year to be honest for obvious reasons. I want to wait to see what problems arise in the first year. I waited till '07 to buy my Z06 even though the 07's are known to drop valves (I haven't had that issue though and had the heads worked anyway) 06's like to become convertibles while driving down the highway due to the adhesive they used for the roof. I didn't wait on the cobalt but was more to save face and keep my ego intact. I was seriously looking at maybe a prius or civic hybrid due to having to commute to work, but thankfully chevy came out with the 08 SS/TC and I had to wait about 4 months ( while reading this website and the internet like crazy about every detail on the SS/TC) for them to show up and it was easy for me to convince myself that hey I would still be getting 25 miles per gallon and be able to pass the idiot in front of me talking on his/her phone.

I wouldn't expect anything somewhat economical and fun from GM anytime soon. Especially something RWD as they love to nut hug the snow belt drivers ..
Ok so a somewhat reasonably priced small to somewhat medium sized RWD coupe or sedan that is either turbo4 or turbo6 would be my guess.
One thing that is exciting is that GM is running INDY now and they are running a VVT FI v6 ... I can't wait to see a similar engine and block of that go into there next Malibu SS
Which I think is going to be the next big sport compact/mid size to compete with the Taurus show 2013..
GM has gone down government motors lane and continuously focusing on how to be more like Toyota.
With that being said we can pretty much count on over weight boring cars for a while.
Sorry but the big boat RWD "Chevy SS" or VF commodore is still lame ..
I guess all GM does is listen to beer drinking v8 nut swinging mullet crew over at Gminside news who barely have enough money to buy the beer in the first place.
All those guys talk about is "when am I getting my gas guzzler v8 rwd sedan"
I think it's the demographic of v8 nut swingers and domestics that is the reason why they aren't making one.
Hyundai- Genesis Coupe
Toyota FT86
Subaru BRZ
the list goes on while GM trys to focus on 3 cars
Camaro
Cruze
Volt
All of which I would never probably own because of various reasons .
Look, I didn't say they were going to do this!
To compete with the 1M not the car competing with the 1 series in general!
It's what I would like to see from them and it would be smart of them to do this. I mean look at the Z06/ZR1 Vette (competes with ummm let's see Ferrari's, Vipers, Porches, Lambo's, GT-R's etc) and CTS-V (designed to compete with the M5) people that have these have great performance for a great price (I should know I have an '07 Z06 if you can't tell from my name and sig) and everyone else likes to hate on them for interior quality and fit finish and quality of parts used etc... which is true but at the red light or track for the most part you know what happens when you line up next to one of these cars.
Ohh wait remember what all of you are here for the 20 thousand dollar car that when it came out set the fastest front wheel drive record at the Nürburgring etc...
So yeah I'm not asking for what already hasn't been done and like I said it would be smart of GM to take this ploy and again I'm not saying they are gonna do this!
