Some more questions

I have a few questions and wanted to put them all in one post..

First, what are typical fuel psi on these cars? Idle, it goes between 325-500ish..drivint at
70mph it usually is around 800-850ish..at 80mph it's in the 900s. Will different tunes affect that? The reason I ask is the previous owner the other day mentioned that when he had it he would never see it that low in the 300s..he also was running it with E85..

Second, the cat warm up... He also said he's never heard the car sound the way it does during the cat warm up. I thought it was normal but I don't know.. It sounds like it sputters, hisses sputters, hisses until it's warmed up. I'm going to record the sound tomorrow and post it.

Third... Fuel... I've heard that certain brands of fuel are better than others. Example Mobil, shell, chevron... Is there one that is better than the others and why?

So you got it retuned for 93 when he was running e85? Did the new tuner turn off the car warmup cycle for better idle?
How many miles on it? And since you know the previous owner, did he already clean the valves?

For the fuel top tier fuel is recommended, just Google it and you will find more info about it.

Hey, thanks for the reply.. Kevin did the tune but I'm gonna guess and say no he didn't? Any cons for tuning it to so it doesn't do the cat warm up? I just hit 110,000 miles, I don't think he had them cleaned so I will go ahead and look into that one. And in regards to the fuel, last night when I was typing this before falling asleep I didn't even think about googling it, I'm sorry for that one. I should have done that.

I'm gonna guess kevin did **** off the car warmup cycle. And at 110,000 miles those valves could look real bad. Mine idled a lot better after cleaning them.

That's not sputtering ur turbo is boosting and it's blowing off, sometimes not enough so some air is hitting compressor wheel and making that flutter noise. Don t worry bout it

my car sputters sometimes during warm up. dirty valves is what I always concluded it was. at 97k myself so im assuming my valves are gunky. I hear cleaning them up makes the car purrrr.

Yeah, just listened to that video. Thats not the sputtering I hear.. That nothing to worry about. Sounds like your right at 0 vac/psi which our cars will do that flutter sound and blow off.

ok I'm going to be the jerk here but to me your car doesn't sound right in cat warm up mode.

There is weird stutter/moan that I do not recognize. Happens right at the 30 sec mark of the video.

Could just be that your cat warm up needs to be tuned a little better.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

That's the sound I am talking about and yes it's at 30 second mark. I'll record another one where I'm outside of the car and you can hear it better.

Its louder the closer you get to the KN filter cone in the bumper.. It sounds like it's gasping for air..doesn't do it all the time, lasts for maybe 30 seconds till the warm up mode is over.. Any con's to disabling the cat warm up mode?

It sounds to me like flutter.

Take the intake off and check the turbo for shaft play by wiggling it.

It might have just a tiny bit of play, but if it moves a lot it could be bad.

Do you have any other issues drivability wise?

Again it may just be the tune but need to double check the turbo.

No other issues driving wise. Only time I hear that noise is cat warm up for about 20 seconds on and off.

I'm taking the intake off and just wiggling the turbo itself? A little play is okay and a lot is bad... Will do that later when I get home from work and let u know.

Yep just take off the intake, wiggle the turbo fins inside the inlet of the turbo. Also try to look or take a picture of the inside of the turbo. Sometimes you can see if the blades are hitting the housing.

Here's an example

My car does something similar. Just attributed it to being the nature of the beast. I bet if you hook up HPTuners and log you'll see a few misfires also

Nope, no misfires. Haven't since day one..kevin would have seen it on the logs and told me. I even went back to the most recent log and none.

Are you getting misfires?

It used to get a few misfires, but I adjusted DAL and messed with WGDC and spark a little and have it pretty much dialed in as far as cat warmup goes.
