SRI fears.

At some point in the past I was dead set on buying a K&N SRI; however, I came across a thread that sayd if you put one on an untuned car then you'll lose your job, and your wife will run off with Hulk Hogan and the stock market will crash again. All I really want is to be able to hear my car better and then possibly tune it in a couple of years when the warrenty is about to run out.

The main thing I'm really here to ask about is, if I buy the SRI and install it with GMS1, will it really cause many problems? I know people have it and are perfectly fine. I'm also aware that I may get a few individuals in here that say tune or die.

I just want to hear my motor is all!

Any facts, opinions, insults, compliments, or advice is welcomed. Also I apologize for the horrible grammar and spelling.

if you want to hear ur motor get an exhaust...

but dude if you want to be completly optimized in your tune (car running at its peek potential) then you will spend the money and get a tune on a seperate ecm for your car...by swapping ur ecm (cars computer) the dealer will not ab able to tell you car was tuned....it is simple to do and is 100% safe way to keep ur warrenty imo

I put my Dejon SRI on yesterday and have been watching the A/F Ratio it does the EXACT same thing it did with a K&N Air Filter in a modded airbox. I'm gonna log my car one of these days. In my opinion you'll be fine.

jesus..see that stupid intake thread....

I have the k&n sri and gmstage 1 for a year and have had zero issues. I monitored trims a little and didnt see anything out of "ordinary" after seeing that filter rotation can change the trims and cudajoe found a good rotation.

Yea, thanks for the info, I've been thinking a ecm swap would be cool too but just wondered about GMS1 and the K&N. I'm still not sure exactly what I plan on doing for mods yet.

I purchased a spare pcm to tune hpt on, while keeping my stock pcm with gmstage 1. expensive, but good way to not f around when getting warranty work done. for mods the intake, downpipe, charge pipe, IC and a tune are easy, cheap. But a tune and downpipe are the 2 best things you can do to make power.

buy it, put it on, mash the throttle and listen to the whoosh. make sure you put the filter on right is what you need to be concerned with.

i believe it is with the k&N logo upside down

BSR Tune (everyone hates it but me it seems like) and K&N Intake. The BSR tune is just a canned tune, it's not designed around my intake. Been running it like this for thousands of miles and no issues at all.

I think in many cases (definitely not all cases) people will tell you to tune in order to squeeze out every last bit of horsepower (which I don't care about). The K&N is known not to disturb the A/F ratio TOO much. The way people talk the ratio is shitty on perfectly STOCK cars so I wouldn't worry about it. As stated above, put the filter on logo upside down. Tall side of the filter between 11 and 1 o' clock. Basically straight up. Someone logged it and that was the best way.
The only thing I would caution you on is moisture. It still gets in above the headlight / below the hood. I bought a "Dry charger" cover for the filter. Just today in fact it's been raining all damn day. I drove 35+ miles home from work tonight, popped the hood out of curiosity and sure enough, water droplets on the end of the filter. Some people also put a piece of weatherstrip in that area to prevent it.

But go for it. If you want to hear the BPV more you DEFINITELY will. I LOVE the sound!!

K&N backs their products. I've had mine for a year and no problems.

ib4 tuners chime in.

I plan on getting a dual interceptors before I go any further with my engine mods, so I can keep an eye on things. That way if I see that the fuel trims are way out of wack, I'll just take off the intake until I can get tuned. Not too worried though, so many people have run it untuned that I think I'll be okay for a few months until I get tuned.

installed my k&n today. car drives just fine. it felt... not smooth... in a second gear pull however. i think that was because i had traction control on and it was cold outside, resulting in spinning tires and traction control kicking in. ill find out for sure tomarrow. but other than that car rides fine and the intake sounds awesome.

trifecta would be your best bet. its easy and not too expensive. i would recommend buying the cable tho, that way you can flash back to stock anytime you want.

Yeah it was probably just Traction Control.

Most of the time my traction control is FAIRLY smooth when it kicks in but once in a while it comes down like a ruthless dictator. It fools me into thinking I lost boost sometimes it comes on so hard. Granted, sometimes I just turn it off.
