SS/TC shifting problems?
SS/TC shifting problems?
i was cruisin around tonight and all of the sudden i go shift into 2nd and it just revs....so i try 3rd, and 3rd gear worked fine....but it doesnt engage in gear 2,4,nor reverse....
now i gotta take it back to the dealer tomorrow morning bc i have no idea on what it could be ... has this happened to anyone else?

i ****THINK**** that means the roll pin took a ****, try a search on it.
that probably makes more sense. 1 cable is the shifter going up/down and the other is for going side/side so yeah i think one of the linkages might have broke off...

It most likely is your shifter cable for the 2nd,4th and reverse. I had the same thing happen but it took the dealer technician to screw it up all the way. Their is a strain relief at the transmission that broke on mine, but at first It would not go into gear if I was over 5000 rpms, then the tech found it and messed with it more, then I had not 2nd, 4th , or reverse for 5 days until the part came in. They did replace it under warranty, but said the next time it would not be.

Ok i work at chevy , i had an ss HHR that would not go into second or fourth and when it did it woudl sometimes pop out. 2 ppl look at the car before i did. one adjust the cables....Didnt fix.
THe second was told by tech assist to put a shifter and new cables in ti...Didnt fix.
then i got it and was goin to take the tranny out assuming that it had an internal prob.
the tranny never made it out.
I found that on the top of the tranny where the shift cables attach( its liek a little arm with a counter weight) there is a hole in the arm and i found a steel rod suck in there. never figured out for certain what it was , i can only assume an alignment pin to lock tranny in fourth gear for quick adjustment of the shift cable on assm. line. i removed the rod readjusted the cables , and the problem was fixed.
NOT SAYING THATS THE PROB. JUST AN ODD EXPIERENCE THAT SOUNDED FAMILIAR. somethign for you to inspect or tell the dealer to look at if they cant find anything. Hope this helps keep me posted
prolly the linkages. mine went out after i put my B&M in; ripped it a little too much, and shifted to 2nd once and it flopped back out. Put stock shifter back in, dealer replaced cables, all was good.
Same thing happened to my buddy at the track...

Samething just happened to me tonight on my way home from work. No second or fourth or reverse 90% of the time. once in awhile it'll catch 2\4th. Sure feels mushy in these gears, like something's broken in the tranny or shifter. We'll see what the dealer says.
These clutches suck too.
Anyone know what the TC drive axles are rated at?

I never look at a car without thoroughly reviewing the diagrams of the parts that could have possibly caused the failure.
GM says they'll not fix it under warranty beacuase they, and I quote, say "there's no way the shift cables, linkages or roll pins are going to stretch\break or otherwise unless the car was raced or driven excessively hard" and that GM does not and will not tolerate this. So I asked him why the engineers have certified the no lift shift and ran the damn car over 600 times to make sure it works!!!? and the fact that several times during these tests the cables got stretched, or links broke. Just a warning to everyone else: don't drive your LNF TC to hard and remember these cars have little black boxes like what's on airplanes ( jets only), hidden to record all vehicle engine data and parameters.
If it was one cable as you state that moves up and down, which are the directions of all the gears, 1st through 5th, then you'd have no gears. One cable obviously controls the movement of 2nd, 4th and reverse, and yet another is in control of 1st, 3rd and 5th. Then you have the side to side motion.
DLRS will not honor this kind of damage due to hard driving. Funny thing is I have not really driven my car hard yet and was planing to go get certified to race the TC in a SCCA showroom event in 10 days, with GM as a sponsor.
I also told the dlr that this is a comon issue with these cars for over four to five years and the service mgr says No Chance, these cars do not break these parts and there's no TSB's or reports of them having problems in this area.
So much for enjoying this car

Get some ***** man. You can't go to a dealer with forum banter that you've heard about problems and this and that with the 600 launches....blah blah
Go there, tell them you just spent this much ******* money and if they don't warranty this bullshit you are going to lawyer up.
Not
No point in an Attorney till it's happened more than 3-4 times. You just don't get it do ya. They're not going to bat an eye for having spent (not much money) as this car is almost at chevys basement interms of vehicle cost. And they found that the cables had not been very tight and one was broke. Over nighted new ones, nice and tight, only problem now is it won't no-lift shift from 1 to 2 gear. Just grinds. This is what you get with a cookie cutter car. If it happens say 4 or 5 more times and it's the samething, GM has verified and certifed the whole thing which helps in everybodys defense so the dlr can't say you had been to hard on the car, and turn you away. Then the attorney gets called for a lemon -law case. Or, I fix it myself. This should've been upgraded to a rod shifter years ago when this was a big issue.

At any rate, they want to make you happy because while this is not an expensive car, they want to keep you as a buyer for your next vehicle...which will probably cost you more money.
I mentioned the attorney bit as a last resort...which you didn't need to do because they fixed it anyway, am I right?
My local dealer (not the same one i bought the car from) is covering mine. In fact because they are so lazy and don't wanna waste man hours on tearing the tranny apart they are replacing it with a brand new transaxle, cables & Clutch. They had to have a GM rep approve the replacement & I don't know what the Service manager told them but it was indeed approved. I thought they were gonna pull the raced/modified card because I installed a turbo timer & a quick ECU flash with a Tech-II would reveal hard driving but nope. Its all on the dealer. By the way the writer claims it was a stretched cable but since they love me so much they wanna replace all of it, lol.
a quick search would have led u to the unfortunate common problem of shifter cables going out....u lose 2 4 and R.
also...this is the LNF engine sub forum.....there is a drivetrain sub forum
