Stage 1 Complete

Happy New Year guys, I finally gotten my GM Stage 1 installed yesterday @ Jeff Gordon Chevrolet. So far, I'm very impressed with the results after test running it on the highway with no issues and the professional work that has been done. The GM Stage 1 allows you to keep your traction control, kills off the down learn feature, pushing 20-22 psi on the boost gauge. The dealer has to flashed the ECM with the Stage 1 and Stage 2 calibrations, which the dealer had to call GM to get the authorization code and matching up with the VIN # for the vehicle to work properly. I'm very curious why GM would give Jeff Gordon the Stage 2 calibration, so who knows if there will be a Stage 2 kit out yet. The turbo spools very loud when you apply the no lift shift while shifting up to 5500 rpm, which jumps up to 6500 rpms. The only thing I haven't done yet was running a dyno. So far, I love my vehicle and kind of don't know what to do next for upgrades.

Hot side CP and 3" DP Catted or catless, Air box mod w/ your K&N drop in. Wait on an intake. See if the K&N Typhoon will be any good or if you have to tune for it like all the others.

Hmmm.... stage 2 calibration? Where you there to see it or were you told this by a tech?

how long did they take JG took four hours for mine just wondering I broke them in I guess, And the upgrade doesn't take off the learn down feature it just raises the air load limit but there is still a limit.

The kit cost me $400, got it on ebay. LOL It took the tech 2 hours, it was the same one who worked on your car Josh. So, I paid about $214 all together. I asked the tech if he disable the down learn feature. He said, "yes". I saw the paper work at Jeff Gordon with the flashes. GM gave the technician the files for Stage 1 and Stage 2 calibration to flash my ECM. That is why I'm so curious about the whole thing with Stage 2 calibration. The best thing I could do is go to National Speed and run a dianogstic to see if learn down feature is still present after the GM Stage 1 tune. Plus, I need to get some dyno results.

What is the limit? After looking at crateenginedepot.com, I feel like I been misleaded and looking at the GM Stage 1 does. Learn down feature disabled. grr...

But it doesn't destroy your pistons like some aftermarket tunes/tuners.

OP, $400 for Stage 1? That's good deal.

My next upgrades were going to be Injen CAI, GM CAI, or KN CAI, Injen CP or Dejon CP with HKS, CIA exhaust or ARK Grip, tint my windows from dealer, hid lights with Anzo Headlights (factory look) or Gen 3 with HID's. That may be in the summer.

you obviously haven't seen how lean the GM tunes run. I suggest you buy an inteceptor and look at the A/F ratio setting

It's a DI motor, AFRs are far leaner than motors equipped with conventional injection technology. The GMS1 tune doesn't suck, it's all about what you're looking for performance wise.

Unfortunately GMS1 can still crack cyl 1. Difference is warranty of course.

Hard to say because you drive a SS/SC, which I traded mine for more power. It was an obsession that I couldn't help. I highly doubt the piston will crack, unless you add more power for the what the car can't handle. I know the SS/SC clutches are vurenable after Stage 2 installement and plus the weak axles due to wheel hoping for not lunching properly.

What I drive makes no difference really. I didnt say it happened to me. No need to get defensive.

It happened to a buddy here in town with a GMS1 HHR SS (auto). Ring failed and led to a cracked piston.

I don't mean to imply it has a high likelyhood of happening either, but blrt saying it "doesn't destroy your pistons like some aftermarket tunes/tuners" is definitely false.

I sincerely hope and highly doubt it will happen to your car, but if it does you will have warranty to fall back on so no worries.

GMS1 does disable learn down feature. i don't know who told you otherwise... the only thing i can see the tune limiting is boost pressure... otherwise it should still respond to other mods without detuning back to 280whp and 320lbft

warranty FTW .. like i've said a thousand times before... your aftermarket tune might be faster but we'll see whos crying at the end of the day when something goes wrong with the motor. i can live with being .3 seconds slower in the 1/4 if i can drive my car home afterwards. not all of us are concerned with being the fastest cobalt out there... my car is plenty fast already and can already dust most cars on the road around here.

Terminator2;4564450]You are actually the 4th or possibly 5th LNF on here with a Trifecta tune and a cracked piston. No one wants to believe me that lots of boost too much gasoline in the cylinders means cracked pistons. Maybe some will

I notice one thing today, my car is starting to get hard to hit 20 psi due to cold weather and running on cold tires skidding a little with competitive mode. Believe that is the cause of having so much torque, plus need to make sure the turbo is fully warmed with coolant above 160 F along with tires, so I can still hit 20psi easily. After leaving work, I waited till my car was fully warmed up in the 35 F weather outside (very cold). Try going for about 2 minutes on the road, and suddenly bursting between gears I was able to hit 20psi.
