Stalling and more fun
Well , yesterday was not a good day for my car.
I have had my 09 tc for about a year and a half with no real problems at all untill now. Untill yesterday and this morning. First , on the way to work yesterday after getting off the highway. I got a message on my dash that said " Check Gas Cap " . Secondly , Driving home from work I got almost home. Was leaving the local corner store , gave the car about 3/4 throttle in second gear. And the car starts to go and then abruptly falls flat on its face and I dive bomb into the steering wheel. Turns out it blow my upper injen charge piping off the intercooler. But it sounded like it blow a whole in the side of the block at first ! And finally this morning. I start my car to g to woek. And the damn thing stalls twice in a row before it would idle and stay running. I gotta fix the stalling issue. But I have no cel on at all. The car didi seem to be searching for a suitable idle after it finally started for a few seconds untill it evened itself out. Can the check gas cap message and the stalling both be realted to the purge valve on th intake mani ?
Thoughts ??

Can a boost leak cause your car to stall on start up after sitting for a few hours ? It is fine if it is warmed up. Turned off and back on. Even after an hour or two. But after all night it will stall out. And if it was a boost leak. I would assume it would be from the coupler at the intercooler where it blew off ? The damn injen coupler is only like 1.5 inches long. Not really long enough if you ask me.

I guess I will take the purge valve off and see if I can blow through it. And probably but a new one. I hope it helps.
I tryed using an app for my phone called torque to look for codes. But apparently you need to buy a scan tool first.
Are all scan tools bluetooh conectable or wi-fi ?

Thanks for the link sox. How do you like torque ? Is it any good ? Any useful real info ? And are you using the lite version or the $5 pro version ? I will probably get the scan tool you linked for me. I gotta get my morning stalls figured out !

I have the pro. It very good. Some of the pids are not right for our car but there are several topics here that list good ones. It shows far more than an interceptor because the interceptor only has 2 pids display at a time but torque can show 8 at a time if your screen is large enough.

Nope not usually. In fact, I had a big leak when I first installed my GMS1 maps because the lower CP hole in my charge pipe was not a blind hole. The first start up the car ran perfect in fact a bit smoother than normal from running rich (rich cold start will be smooth a lean cold start will be super rough sometimes)

Could the intake manifold purge valve cause a lean cold start and then stall out twice in a row ? Or would it be something else ? Like my K&n filter being too dirty !
MAF could be oily I would clean the MAF and filter if the filter is dirty. You can cap the top of the purge valve off but leave it plugged in to see if that fixes the issue.

So basically. If I just disconnect the line off of it on the morning just before I start it. But leave it plugged in. And if the car starts normal with the fuel vapor line off then it is my problem and I need s new one ? And I'd it okay to drive with it not connected bug plugged in.

How do you find that scan tool works in general ? I am hoping it works well paired with my phone.
Also , what would I use to cap off the top of the purge valve ?

So I took the large off. I couldn't blow through it at all. So I assume that means that it may be okay. However I sis notice when starting my car last time it is almostlike it is being choked for air. It isn't really making that normal kn sri sound until after it stalls a few times. Then the turbo made a small different hiss noise and then it idled fine after the second start up. Is there anything turbo wise that controls that crazy sucking sound when first starting the car with the k and n ? Anything that could have got damaged by my charge piping blowing off the intercooler?
Vacuum cap and a clamp. Try cleaning the maf and going back to the stock airbox and see if anything changes. Sometimes when the cp comes off it hits the electronic part of the hpfp which can rip through the wires or break the plug off.

I will look around that general area and see if anything looks out of place. But the cp Stayed together every where except under the car at the intercooler. It really sounds like something isn't letting enough air in at cold start idle.
Although , I just let it sit for 5 hours. When I started it this time. It didn't stall. It just hunted for a proper idle. But did so kinda slowly. It went from 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm. back and forth slowly about 4 or 5 times. And then it leveled out. And ran normal. Hopefully it is just having a hrad time re-learning the intake but is slowly getting there. lol.... Cause i'm getting tired of updating the thread. I can imagine how ya'll feel reading all my posts !
