Supertech Valve Springs

Who has installed them? Who has had to grind the head for them to have enough clearance, (but also who actually paid attention to that part)? I am beginning to wonder if I got a set of 98lb springs instead of 78ob ones. I was told by supertech that it was a normal thing to have to grind the head on the ecotecs. But I dont know anymore, I am haveing issues with the valvetrain time and time again. First time was a broken tensioner, and now I am having an issue with a noise, it is very random and once the motor warms up it will go away for the most part. However I can still get it to make the noise if I lightly tap the throttle. Also since this noise I threw a cel, but when I checked it no code was there. Another thing is the car is an absolute dog, It will not build but about 3psi and then you can here the throttle close and the bov open. Any ideas? I was starting to thing maybe an camshaft actuator, but when I am broke had an issue with one he had a cel and no noise so I am not sure about that now either. But if I got say 98lb springs that could be f'ing the valvetrain up, but why now after 500 miles whould that occur all of a sudden. As you can tell I am clueless as I have pulled the valvecover and checked all the small things, like springs, and to see if the chain was still tight and such.

Yea I reset the timing while I was doing it. It did not jump. I pulled the front engine cover and did it right to.

Did you put the lil ring on the bottom of the wastegate if you had it off?? It can easily fall when you pull the wastegate and be forgotten lol.

easiest way to to find out would be to pull a spring, go to any decent shop and have them pressure test the spring for you. You'll at the very least know where you stand with the springs at that point and be able to move on to other further troubleshooting if needed

I am actually leaning toward the timing chain, balance shaft chain or the water pump being messed up. I grabbed the stethoscope and listened and it is loudest on the end of the chain, also a little louder down by the water pump. BYT yes the little ring is there.

Ok preliminary results say the balance shaft chain tensioner. I dont have the side cover all the way off, but I removed the square four bolt cover on the side and the balance shaft chain just flops around like its not even hooked up.

Good to hear you figured out your issue. Any idea how this happened? Just wear and tear?

Thats what I dont know. I am replacing the chains, guides, and tensioners and will see what happened. I only had 25000 miles on the car when I did the build so I dont think it would be wear. Thats where I am not sure about the springs, but we will see.
