is there any point? (tire)

this might be a dumb/newb question so forgive me.

is there honestly any reason to run wider tires in the back of a FWD car?

im going to run 235/40/R18 in the front

i was debating on the same size or 245/40/R18

only if you're a ricer. the reason why rwd cars have bigger tires in the rear is for traction on the drive wheels.

No point at all really, not to mention you would go through front tires more often since you couldnt rotate them.

if it were me I would run a 245/40 18 drag radial for drag and a set of 235/40 18's all the way around when you dont have the radials on.

You could easily run 245 KDW II's

My 225s are too small for the rim...smaller than the Conti's

1 CM.

And a few cars are staggered like so from the factory

The FWD Impala SS and Grand Prix GXP both have larger fronts than rears.

but there is displacement for this too.

if the back tires arent turning. ur just using more HP to move the bigger tires. I am just curious...

What about grip to keep the rear from coming out in a hard turn? I'm not saying having them bigger than the fronts, but wouldn't that at least be a case to keep them about equal in addition to the ability to rotate your tires?

of course bigger tires will give more grip. doesn't mean that the rears should be bigger than the fronts.

to be honest if you have sticky tires, like probably 220-200 threadwear, youll have more grip than a 260 threadwear tire thats 10 mm bigger...

bigger as in larger then the ones you would put on the front?? then no
larger as in all of them wider then stock but all of them the same?? yes, more contact = more ability to corner at higher speeds

i would never do it but with a wider rear tire wouldnt ur car be less likely to kick the ass end out when taking fast turns?

but if ur gunna do that, why not do them all the same size

Think in terms of centrifical force. The lighter the weight the less centrifical force. There is more weight concentrated on the front in a FWD car. Less in the rear. Less weight = less centrifical force = smaller tires required if for no other reason less rotating, unsprung weight. The front being heavier and driven would create more centrifical force and lack of traction meaning larger tires. Tires are always a juggling act. Ask any NASCAR crew chief.

Weird cause I actually thought of buying a set of 245 for the FRONT since we need more traction and more weight is on the front axle. Doing the opposite seems kinda wrong.
Anyways If I do anything, I'll put 235s on all corners just to make a little difference if there's any.

That's what I'm going to do next round of tires.

i got staggered wheels for one reason, they look sick. I know there isn't much of a performance increase other than the rear will track like a ************.
