Tranny swp complete - 07 cobalt trans installed!
This wasn't by choice - I couldn't find a new 08+ trans (other than by GM for $3500+), so I purchased a brand new 07 trans from ebay.
The job took about 7 hours to complete in my garage with the help of a neighbor (we work well together).
Some questions I had are answered now:
-The speedometer is still 100% accurate - 60mph is 60mph, verified by GPS.
-There is no check engine light, cruise control still works just fine
-It is exactly physically identical to the 08+ transmission, the only difference is the final gear ratio.
-Removing and reinstalling this transmission really wasn't as hard as I was expecting, next time I do one I suspect (with the help of my friend) I could get this done in 6 hours.
I don't know if the 4.05 final gear ratio is noticeable - the car was parked for almost 6 months while I saved enough for the new transmission, so I cant give an accurate comparison to the old transmission with its 3.8x ratio. I suspect its marginally faster in acceleration.
I don't notice the RPMs being too much higher on the highway, still sitting around 3k at 70mph.
Still to see if there is a gas mileage difference, or if the dyno reflects the gear ratio change.
3rd transmission in this car going to be the charm? I'm going to disassemble the old trans and take some pictures of 3rd gear. The shaft flexed enough to punch a 1" by 1" hole in the transmission casing (ouch).

Going to a 4.45 is a bandaid fix, but I admit it does help longevity a bit. On a stock LNF small turbo, the 4.45 shouldn't hurt much, if at all.
But if you upgrade to something large, I would look into a different route to help the trans last longer.

Two questions for you:
1. Where you able to bolt up the LSD from your 08+ Tranny to work with the new one?
2. You say these transmissions (07) are the same as the 08+ trannies less the final gear ratio, is this really the case. GM would give a car with 60+ more ft/lbs of torque the same exact transmission, thats scarry?

The F35 trans is only rated for 260tq, it seems like a bad choice for this car with the stock numbers it puts down not to mention the available GMS1 upgrade puts it well above that. Wasn't zzp doing something with the f35 trans?
