Transmission help.. New to cobalt

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and my name is Aro! I own a 2013 gtx3071r mazdaspeed3, and yesterday I bought a 09 ss/tc. Has a 3" zz fmic, k&n intake, bosch computer I am told, downpipe and custom exhaust. he also said it is gm stage 2?The guy also told me it has 30k km on the new engine and a transmission job recently where a supercharged transmission was put in. I found her hard to go into gear which he told me prior to meeting. First he said it was because of the slave cylinder, but later leaned to say the flywheel was supposed to be changed with the transmission swap. I drove 400km home no issues and drove around last night. Today I went for a drive this morning and when I came home I tried to back in and when I went to get reverse it felt like she just slipped into place when there's usually a little effort needed. Let out the clutch and nothing. Turns out it does this for second, fourth and reverse. I did my research before posting and I saw it could be a roll pin and a bunch of other Things along with shift linkage, but if I shut the car off, shift her into second fourth or reverse and start the car up she engages in that gear. I just posted for quick help, sorry for the novel but I'm new to this platform. I've seen similar posts but never saw anybody say they could get the car in those gears with the car shut down.. Thanks in advance everybody!
Edit: as a side note I was using the mobile friendly version of the website and didn't see the drive train section.. If I mod could transfer this post please

Ya u got an lsj tranny with shorter gears, guys use it when they have higher hp cause it takes the power better than stock tranny. Almost sounds like that tranny needs to to taken out and everything checked and installed properly. I'd check the clutch as well. Who put the tranny in ? The previous owner?

He did. He is a mechanic. The car shifted into second fourth and reverse perfectly. I came out of the four way stop in second gear, approached my driveway to back into it and when I did I couldn't find reverse, second or forth. I have another excellent clutch and The flywheel I supposedly needed. He has a slave cylinder he is going to bring to me next weekend. I know the guy personally

GM stage 2 (for the LNF, not LSJ) is what the performance tune from GM is commonly reffered as in the Solstice/Sky community because they actually had a GM performance intake as their "stage 1". For the Cobalts, the tune is just reffered to as GM stage 1 (GMS1) or the GMPP tune.

Cool. The car was tuned by a local tuner. Runs pretty docile at conservative boost but when I press the traction button twice it goes into "competative" mode and runs 24 psi, and with a lot more power. I'm not used to this. My Mazda is tuned differently and I have to apply maps to change the tune. But what I can't wrap my head around is why it would go int second forth and reverse with the car off?

Roll pin. Take to a trans specialist and it should be fixable without removing the trans.

Some mechanic friend he is. Sells you a gimped car with problems, expensive problems at that. I hope you got a killer price, cause this car might cost you a lot down the road. Hope buddy does all the work for free(or a two four) and does it right this time.

That sounds like a trifecta tune

I traded him a 2007 mxz xrs with 1800 miles on the chassis. Not the mention the engine was blown to bits from the head to the crank. I got the csr next to nothing. He wasn't selling it we just have been talking about the car for months and we got to talking about my sled and it just happened lol. he doesn't use it, ever. It's stored 11 months a year the last 3 years. He uses his f250

Do you mean the cables under the cup holders or the linkage itself? I saw and read the thread for the cables but I'm unsure on how to adjust the linkage. Thanks for every bodies help I really really appreciate it. My Mazda is in storage/shop mode in the winter. Getting rods, pistons and meth injection setup so this is my b
whip through the winter and I was going to let my girlfriend take it in the summer

I'm at the hospital now to see my grandfather ad when I go back that is my project for the night. The shifter goes "beyond" fifth gear as well, if you know what I mean. Thank you very much

Roll pins
Shifter adjustment under the console first.

Bleed it. Vacuum bleed the slave.
The LSJ and LNF trans, TOB, pp and clutch disc all use the same tolorences. No need for a special clutch combo to put the LSJ trans on your car.

If you rev it up and build boost does it change how the clutch pedal pressure feels?

What shifter is in the car?
Snap a pic of it.

And snap a pic of the car too.

Unsure of the shifter. He told me it was a short shift but removal of the knob shows a hack job cut off with a grinder which is weird because he gave me the original shift assembly too. I have the whole console off of the car, so when I get back I will take a video and post it to YouTube and post the link. Thank you friend I appreciate all of the help

Sorry for the double post but I just went out picking at my cables and tried to take a video but my phone died. When I let go of the retaining clip on the left cable and move the shifter to the right it is in fourth gear.. I'm done with it until first thing in the morning, then I will go at it again.

Had the same problem with the shifter when I first bought my IRL, it's out of adjustment for sure, do you even have to use the reverse lockout release to get into reverse?

Negative on the reverse lockout.. Didn't know there was one. Like I said either the previous owner or the original owner made it short shifter by taking a grinder to what I assumed was the original. Funny because I have another shifter assembly. It is 0750 here now, I am shortly getting up to look at the cables again.. Can't seem to get the adjustment. I feel like a idiot, because I read and re read the thread and can't seem to get anywhere with the adjustment.

Hey guys sorry for double posting again, but I found a roll pin at a local industrial shop at 50cents.. I suppose it's what I'm looking for? Generic roll pin? I went messing with my shifter cables for easily 45 minutes and it got me nowhere. I have the right cable adjusted as far back as I can get it. this is the pin I have.

The left cable adjusts side to side
the right cable adjusts front to back.
You have to mess with both.

Post a picture of the shifter you have. Sounds like it is a hack up job.
