there are HUGE differences between cats. spun, ceramic etc. I bought a hahn catted dp so I wouldnt throw a cel during gmstage 1 usage. But when I tune I'll probably grab a catless megan. When I was researching the cat, from what companies use what etc. there are very much large differences in manf., materials, "holes" they use for flow.

 

what's the point of a warranty on a cat? if the car is tuned right the cat should last anyways..
the op seems to not be minded about emissions, more so performance, so paying 250 dollars for a cat, that a 50-100 dollar cat does the same thing, makes no sense.

no doubt, zzp uses spun metal, lasts longer....looks like this 250 one is spun metal also, can't tell their website is very vague. soooo.

 

things fail, they always will, no way to guarantee it. A higher quality cat will be better for emissions and also performance minded, a cheap cat will do little for emissions, just slow the flow of exhaust. So technically a cheap cat and a high quality cat wont do the same thing. IMO either get a high quality cat or go catless, theres no real need for a cheap cat unless your goal is to try and not get a cel and you arent tuned.

Bear River makes both. This is the spun metal cat (looks like thin sheet metal, corrugated like cardboard and rolled up). The white one that looks like a square grid is ceramic.

Damn you guys are giving pbass **** for putting an expensive cat on his car. There are guys putting STUPID things on theirs like wings off a 747 on the trunk, and lambo doors, and hood pins, and body kits that look like hondas, and 24 inch wheels and stuff and this guy is getting burned for putting top quality parts on his car... MAKES ZERO SENSE! The dp is sweet I have one, the cat looks good, I have never personally run one on my car so I dunno about the quality. This is how performance stuff is built, a guy with enough money says build this ____ <--- (insert performance part here) and then the company that put it together goes :facepalm: what a great idea... I think I'll sell that, now watch Treastone is going to make one like that and people are going to thank pbass for spending the money to do it.

I would run a catted downpipe to reduce smell.

I installed the ZZP spun-metal catted on my friend's car about 15 months ago. He has never thrown a code and he passed his emissions test about 5-6 months ago. I can understand paying extra for products that carry a name so that you can feel better about them (like Rolex watches that tell time just like a digital Timex) but this Bear whatever cat doesn't satisfy that requirement. If it's better for the environment, then by all means, I applaud you for spending the extra money on it.

 

If the company's a small established American company, a warranty shows how long they expect their product to last at minimum. If a company is a giant like Sears, whose main business nowadays is financing and not retailing, they can cheap out on a once great product and gamble that no one will use Craftsman tools enough to invoke it. However cats are not like tools that few use professionally (most won't choose Craftsman any more), most people use sometimes and some leave in the packaging forever. Cats are in daily use as soon as they're installed until they fail.

 

Well like I said, it's their willingness to take time to inform prospective customers about their product, not treating folks like sheep. I like it when a maker shows respect for the paying customer.

It's not a name brand, heck, most folks have no idea where their cat comes from. I was just surfing around, finding little to no information on cats when this maker's site popped up, and I liked the way they answered all my questions, on the site and in email.

I like their faith in their products and the way they thought even little things through, like the ductility of the extension pipes, even though I was gonna cut 'em off.

I take the warranty to be an expression of their faith in their cat. I'm kinda betting the cat will last as long as the pipe, since I plan on driving the car into the ground. I got 168,000 out of an Escort wagon and I'm hoping to beat that with the TC.

Anyway, I just like these guys and after I settled on the cat, it only remained to find someone to wrap an angled bung DP around it.

 

I buy craftsman. Craftsman has a lifetime warranty on their tools, it breaks take it into sears and get it replaced no questions asked
I didn't mean to come off like I was flaming for you getting it, like I said if you like it you like it. Just don't go around trying to act like it's some act of god and better than anything cause when it comes down to it a magnaflow cat is the same thing, never threw a cel, etc.

 

Yeah, can't do that with this. I mean, if I lose the cat, I lose the DP too.
