Trifecta tune+ Hahn CAI= NO COOLANT?
Trifecta tune+ Hahn CAI= NO COOLANT?
Ok guys bear with me, I'm fairly new to forced induction cars and tuning.....
So today I got my EZ flash cable and my Hahn Intake. I hooked up the intake and flashed my ecu. I took the car for a nice little joy ride, and maaaan she is fast! anyways, I get back to my friends house and shut off the car for a little bit. When I start my car back up, a message shows up saying low coolant. Check the coolant, and it is a little below the fill to line. I figure I'll keep an eye on it on the ride home. On the highway, I notice that the coolant temp would jump up to about 203- 205 degrees F. By the time I got home, my neighbor came over and hooked up his HP tuner and saw that the intake temp was jumping up about ten degrees just from turning the tune on.. this is with the car in neutral in the driveway. I shut off my car and pop my hood, and to my horror see that all of my coolant is GONE! I could hear gurgling sounds coming from somewhere inside my engine... well I am exhausted from this long day, and about to call it a night. Hopefully some of you "wiser" cobalt gurus could give me some input about what happened and maybe guide me in the right direction on what steps I should take to take care of this situation? Thanks for checking out my post guys, any input is appreciated.

i was loosing coolant too, but not that fast. I was loosing it from the cold side return line on the turbo. I lifted my car to put on my downpipe and saw an amazing amount of coolant burned to the turbo and all over the bottom of the car. Warrantied and back on the road in less than 3 days. Check under your car. just my $0.02

dont think a tune will cause u coolant to start going missing....
tune=electrical
coolant leak=mechanical
did you car leave any puddles of coolant anywhere? try letting it idle in your driveway and fill it up a bit, see if it start dripping anywhere

i had the loosing coolant problem, i had porus block, a defective block from the factory. its when the block isnt cast right and there are little holes that doesnt let it seal on the head proper and ur coolent slownly drains into ur bottom end and mixes with ur oil. check ur oil, if its a gray brownish color or (its a little gross) if u touch it to ur tounge and its sweet tasteing, ur coolend is getting into ur oil somehow. Could be what i had, or a head gasket or intake gasket. If u do have the bad block, make sure ur at stock tune and u will get a new motor on warrenty.
my guess is you cut the coolant line that goes to ur turbo while putting on ur intake mine was a tight fit. check the little rubber line that is on the left side of ur engine bay by the timing chain bump there are two plastic clips that connect it to the valve cover check the line where it goes to the hard line you prob have a cut in the rubber
i havent had a coolant leak or anything rediculous.... but after like a month of owning the car with absolutely no mods to anything the low coolant light came on. i just added a a little bit and have yet to have a problem since. i honestly doubt a tune would cause this.
Allrighty guys, a little update for you...
I filled my resevoir with coolant, and let the car idle in my driveway for about 45 mins, and the coolant was still there. I then took the car around the block, and by the time I got home the coolant was about half gone!

If there is still no leak, take the aftermarket parts off and bring it to the dealer under warranty. There is a problem internally in the engine (ie head gasket cracked head/block etc).
check everything for leaks. check your oil level too. i remember my uncles bonneville ssei was loosing a lot of coolant. i started to check everything and when i pulled the dip stick there was fluid like 3 quarters of the way up the dip stick.
Yep, Get a pressure test done and may also look into getting a block tester kit to check if exhaust is in the coolant. Based on description I'd say blown HG what octane gas were you running with the new tune? How much boost? Do you know if the car had any KR? All it takes is one run with something not right to pop a HG and I'm not sure how well these LNF's are about Knock Retard. I've had 3 HG replacements on my TTA over the years (popped one on a dyno lol)
I only use 93 octane in my car.. to be honest with you, I don't know much about KR, but I do know that the KR was flashing red for a second with the HP tuners data logging program (my neighbor hooked it up to do some data logging). I re flashed back to stock and I am going to go into the dealer on tuesday or wednesday (have classes) and hopefully get this taken care of. The part that sucks the most is now I am stuck driving my winter beater around, and it's no fun!
ya when ur coolent goes missing that the first thing u should check, i did, oil was funny color and l knew where my coolent was going and i knew it was a problem in the motor. dealer cheaked head gasket, was fine, then they noticed the block was defective and allowing coolent to seep into my oil, after 2000km on the motor.
Just let the car sit in the driveway and rev it up while you are looking under the hood. Like previously stated you most likely nicked a line and unless it has pressure it is not leaking.
I daily my saturn over my Z28 and while changing the thermo the old hose cracked on me when i unscrewed the worm-screw clamp. It was fine when i ran the engine at idle but sitting there revving it up i noticed the leak.
Just check for leaks with the cooling system under pressure before you resolve to anything more drastic. A tune will in no way cause this issue.

Ronn,
that problem was a result of a porus block. I had the motor replaced under warranty.
I scanned the car last night and got the P0101 code and the turbocharger underboost code.
