Hey guys,

I am getting a 2nd PCM in the near future and probably HPT package around x-mas time... I realize i need to update the 2nd PCM to have my cars VIN n what not however the PCM im receiving is on the stock OS. I am on GMS1. is it possible to read my original PCM and flash the file to the 2nd PCM without GM knowing i read my original ? also will this use 2 sets of HPT credits where it is 2 computers or just 1 because it is the same VIN? I know these are basic questions once i dig into HPT more im sure ill have a few more q's but that wont be for a bit yet.

Yes you can read the tune fine without any knowing, not sure on the 2 different ecu's needing 2 or 4 credits though.

Yes, you will need 2 more credits or if you are going to tune others, bite the bullet and use 5 more to turn it into a model year license. HPT looks at the ECU serial numbers so it knows it's a different one.

 

never thought of that b4... good idea this is going to get pricey fast i see . the other option would be to have someone send me the GMS1 tune n change the VIN to my own n never ever read my stock PCM... if i do it that way (if i even can) can i keep the credits down to 2 for the new PCM ill be tuning?

Nope, HPT detects the electronic serial number in the ECU as does your BCM. You need the credits and unless the second ECU is programmed as it's mate with a TechII, you will need to do the security seed relearn upon each ECU swap wheather programmed with your VIN or not. I know from experience on one I sold.

He can just use two credits and use a gms1 on his stock ecu, and have the other stock ecu, but he would have to have the relearn and stuff on the stocker ecu.

If you wanted to do it that way I'd find a buddy with a tech2 and have them do it or go to some dealer away from where you service your car and get them to do it.
Then all you'd have to do is tune your stock ecu with gms1 or custom hpt. If you have someone pull gms1 off their car all you have to do is read your current ecu tune, open it up in vcm editor, then open up a compare file, and change over all the differences from the 2nd gms1 tune to your stock tune, walah.

Still do have to get a tech 2 to mate any stocker that you would buy to your car which stinks. I've heard rumors of ways to do so in hpt whether or not that's true idk.

 

nah i wanna leave my stock PCM alone and use the 2nd as my tune PCM that way again i know with 100% certainty GM doesn't know squat when i go in for service (if i ever have to)
