Very close to buying a 09..
First off,
it has just over 103xxx kilometres, which is roughly 60k miles I believe. Been taken care of.
Has a decent amount of boltons along with a gms1 and trifecta tune enabled by traction button.
Build date of 04/09.
Just ran out of warranty and was brought it to make sure everything was fine, friend of mine owns it and posts on here. (Not so much anymore)
My only question is... If I get hit with porous block... Since I'm out of warranty what's the cost gonna be?

I've read the build dates between 10/08 to 04/09 were the ones affected .
I read up on everything I could find last night for like 30 minutes, I didn't find much over maybe 10 people saying it happened, not much info on it
You'd be looking at about 5k for an LDK long block, installed. There is one guy on here with a thread right now about a porous block at 90k miles. I always say stay away from the 09's. Just go for a 2010.
Just buy Kayla's car and be done with it. Before she owned it , it was aniyher local memebers on here. ( Mikes ) he is Ameeicanauto on the board. The block will not be an issue. The affected motors are no doubt all replaced by now. You won't have a problem. At 103km. If the block was deffective it would have gone by now. I would say at half that defective blocks would show signs.
I have seen two 2010 with porous blocks at a local gm dealer... it happens to ALL YEARS. the issue wasn't addressed until the ldk. Thus being the extra 5lbs of aluminum added to the casting process in the ldk over the lnf.
It's a stressful decision already, I'm away for work and wouldn't even be able to drive or see it for 4 months. Half of me says wait until I come home and search for a 2010 because there's that risk.
Other half says jump on it because of low km, color I want and 90% of mods I want for a decent price. (12kcanadian)
The thing I don't understand is, if all gen2 blocks were made weaker with 5lbs less aluminum, wouldn't it be happening to all eventually? I only hear bad things coming from 09's with 08 and early 09 build dates on here. Besides the one guy above ^

I say buy the car. It won't be an issue. I know the original owner of the car. He kept good care of it. And I know the current owner a little. I know she takes care of it. Mostly... Lol ... quit worrying and buy it. You will regret it if you don't. Lol .
Just because it may fall in the most common range of cracked blocks. Doesn't mean it is going to. Frankly. It is a very very small percentage of cars that have had cracked blocks. I say cracked. Because that's what they are. Cracked. Not porous. Idk where the whole porous part started. But its a cracked block. Between the oil return and coolant jackets. I bet there is about 1% maybe 2% of the Lnf's that have had craked blocks.

So if its a small percentage already that get porus/cracked block and your at 60k miles + ....seems like a low probability...
11k (American dollars) for an 09 with 60k miles seems like a decent deal...
On top of that I think most of them were around 40k miles when the problem became apparent. So if its a small percentage already that get porus/cracked block and your at 60k miles + ....seems like a low probability... 11k (American dollars) for an 09 with 60k miles seems like a decent deal...
Intake/chargepiping/zppIC/downpipe/catback/
forge bov/gms1 and trifecta toggle. Led tails, depo headlights/twm short throw/7in touchscreen deck
Shitty thing is I won't get to see or drive it for 4 months when I'm sent back home.
That's what I'm saying to myself, have to decide very shortly. Not to mention car has a plethora of aftermarket parts already. (Not that it raises value, but I would be doing them anyway)

I could be wrong. But Canadia , wasnt your car black or something beofre ? With bright orange wheels ? And for some reason I thought it was Turbo'ed ?? Or am I thinking of someone else in Dartmouth or Halifax ?
do it! you've wanted a TC for years. + as others have said porus block would have likely shown its ugly head by now.
Back to the point re: LDKs with 5 lbs more Aluminum i thought that as a change for the LNF in 2010 which then carried to the LDK? I could be wrong though.
