Wastegate Actuator

2009 Cobalt LNF(p2099 code, won't boost past 6psi or so); Mechanic who has my car says the wastegate actuator is siezed/leaking vac, car's turbo swapped from the k04 to a Precision turbo; suspected to be a 5457(?). Mechanic says it's the stock wastegate actuator but GM says the only way to get the part is to order the entire k04. So my question is, where can I order an OEM wastegate actuator, OR one that would be a direct aftermarket swap. Thanks for the help in advance!

Is the waste gate you have on your car currently internal or external?

take a picture of the drivers side of the turbo and we can help you figure out what is needed.

Why would an aftermarket turbo come with a k04 actuator. It would have its own. I would contact whoever makes the turbo and ask for one from them. Don't deal with gm

are you taking the car to budget brake and muffler or something? take it to a shop that deals with boosted cars on a regular basis, especially if its an issue on an aftermarket turbo

It's at a shop that deals with aftermarket kits and installations. After the guy told me the problem I looked through pictures I had previously snapped and noticed this one, assuming this is the wastegate actuator (please, correct me if I'm wrong.) I did email precision but they never got back to me.

this is the only picture of the turbo I really have atm, I was suggested that it was the 5457 because Dejon had a kit that included that turbo, it was more common on sky/soltice though from what I understand. Idk if the kid got the kit used and just used the stock wastegate actuator or what but the mechanic is my source of information, he thinks it's the stock one.

As always, I appreciate the help.

Verify the turbo info and contact precision for a replacement, that is not stock.

I would assume there is an id/serial number plate, but you may have to pull the turbo to get to it. I'm not familiar with precision turbos

also, that boost control solenoid that connects to waste gate is supposed to be connected to the compressor housing for boost signal. idk if u pulled it off or it has a different connection I cant see, but if it doesn't, then that would be ur issue right there.

That's just their company logo. These pictures are old, before this problem had started. So I doubt its that hose or wrong connection. My cars running a bov so it may change the routing?

Now I'm going to assume you've done a boost leak test? And put vacuum on the actuator to see if it moves?

yes on the boost leak test, mechanic at the shop did the vac test and it is seized. I'm curious about an aftermarket one because of the fact it gets crushed (I'm assuming that's not normal) the mechanic thought it was stock, I went along with what he said, I just need to know what precision turbo I have to order the part apparently.

it doesn't necessarily solve the problem about the actuator being crushed, either way a temp fix is better than nothing.

I just need precision to get back to me about how to identify the model.

I think the only temp fix ull get is simply don't boost. Ull just have to drive a gutless car till u get new actuator. Or just take the actuator off and try to fix it .

what I'm saying is; even if I put a new actuator on, it's going to get crushed again. That's why I'm asking about another aftermarket actuator.

I'm not understanding here, why is it getting crushed? U never told us what the actual cause of the crushing is.

If you look at the second pic you can see where it's been getting slammed into the firewall. Bad motor/trans mounts or just simply to big of a turbo.
