What to do?

So i have a 2000 mustang gt, full bolt ons and nitrous, minus h/c and a stall. My car is an high 11 second capable dd with spray. Times are tough and with the 4500 rebate + 3000 more here in texas, i have thought of the idea of maybe maybe trading my car in for the new SS. Im thinking if i keep the car add the h/c and a stall and be looking at a high 10 second car. At this point i dont know what to do. I want a car thats under warrenty, manual, and boosted. I dont like roll racing, however most of my races just so happen to be roll races. I will never do auto cross for i am drag only guy and i cant stand fwd, but can live with it. I know the new SS are roll monsters and im curious what you guys are spending to get decent power. I know the problem is the starvation of fuel. Im assuming that some one is in the process of making a fuel system capable of going over 450 fwhp? What would yall do in my shoes? Yall are the balt experts. Im not affraid of dropping cash to make a car fast, just my current car has so much potential left and its almost done. I want to hear yalls opinions.

dude, I love my SS, but if I was you, I'd finish up the stang! you could always still get an SS and save the GT for sunny weekends

EDIT: if you look around you can get a second hand SS for a very reasonable price!

if you love drag racing so much, just stick with the GT unless you need some 2nd fwd car for some reason. The GT modded will beat the SS in a drag, you should know that :P

It kind of sounds like you are a little bored and want to trade for a new toy... Test drive one and see what you think. I love my ss, but I would stick with the gt if I were you rather than start all over again with modding ($$$)... You can get 300+ with approximately 1k investment but the numbers you are looking at will probably end up running about 5k (imo) ...when all the issues get worked out....

Tofu's gotten 316whp/341wtq completely stock, with just a tune... and tune's cost, what, $200-400 depending on which route you take? Heck you can pay an HPT guy $100 for credits and do it. Tofu's HPT tuned.

That's cheap HP right there. Keep in mind that these cars are design for courses, not necessarily tracks. Venom09 has been handing it to STIs, EVOs, Supras, etc on courses. People were so taken by surprise that they had his vehicle rechecked for mods (he's completely stock doing this btw).

For power similar to what you've got, you'll need bolt-ons and a turbo swap of some kind. You're looking at just below 400 at the wheels with the stocker when it runs out of breath. The fuel tables have been broken now, but nobody has released them or put out any package for sale that includes the refinements yet.

Keep in mind though that it will always be fwd, and being so, traction on the track will always be an issue. That being said, you'll need to either put drag radials on it, or de-Brembo it and put slicks on it. If you put slicks on it, the next weakness will probably be the tranny.

Yeah but you could turbo or SC the GT and you'd beat the SS all day long. If the OP is a serious drag racer then they should keep the GT. Also why would you trade a 2000 mustang in for what 3500? isnt it worth more than that?

^x2 honestly

It's just the nature of the beast versus what you're wanting.

There is no way the OP would be satisfied with a FWD. The power is good up to the point where it just becomes torquesteer and tire burning. Then it's just irritating.

I would stick with the GT Mustang for now.. It's a solid car with a lot of power.. The ss is a nice car, fast too.. It might drive ya nuts at first because it is not as quick as your stang but with a couple bolt on's and a tune it turns into a beast..

2009 cobalt ss, Black.. Lsd, high rise, debadged..

That was my concern. I dont think i will like high hp with fwd. I dont want to supercharge my car. I would turbo it, but i already went to far forward with nitrous to go back a few steps to go again forward with turbo. I like that the SS is super light and i was thinking for the price maybe it could be a nice roll monster compared to the GT where it shines at a dig. Im by no means bored of the GT. I reconsidered and i will keep the GT. I dont know what i was thinking. If i were to change it would be an SS, just love my GT too much. Plus i have a few more plans to do to it. I like the SS WAY MORE now with out the GIANT wing it used to have. Thanks guys. I am impressed with the cobalt though. I have raced one and it kept up well with out me using nitrous. Also that you guys just "Tune" the car and boom has 300 FWHP. Yea, thats kick ass. 300 bucks and it has a nice kick to it. Yea i run drag radials on my GT, so if i were to get an SS it too would recieve Drag Radials.

$7500 dollars they would give me, not 3500. Federal rebate + State rebate.

im talking about the federal one. I dont even think they took anything 2000 or newer and does the mustang get "21" on the hwy or so, so wouldnt it be the 3500. you know they crush the car right? so all that work you did will be destroyed not resold. a waste imo specially on a newer car.

The SS "giant wing" was always an option. the standard spoiler was the low pro.

Could you swing payments on the SS without getting rid of the stang? Have the stang as your drag car and the SS as your daily driver.
