What makes that Cool Turbo Sound when you Shift Gears?
I know this prolly sounds stupid but I always wondered what makes that awesome Air/Hiss Sound when a Turbo Shifts Gears? I have a 2007 Cobalt SS s/c so I dont know much about Turbo's? Thanks
are you asking about which turbo component makes the hissing sound when building boost?
blow off valve or bypass valve. they release the pressurized air between shifts when its not needed to extend the life of the turbo, if you didnt have that when you lifted off the throttle the throttlebody would close and the air would try to go back out of the turbo, which trys to spin it the wrong way and causes all sorts of damage if it happens enough and if it just barely happens then you just hear a lot of chirping noises...

Actually this is EXACTLY what forums are for.
I only been here a month and I can't help but notice the amount of assholery that goes on when people ask honest questions. For real people, is it that difficult to be polite?
To answer the OPs question, its the bypass valve. Never be afraid to use the search funtcion but if you don't find what you're looking for that way, don't hesitate to post. Just ignore the rudeness.

i guess i been here too long and it has turned me into more of an ******* i spose...there has been a lot of trolling and uber noobs in the past made it hard to just give straight answers. noobs would post incorrect info and others would believe that over the "seasoned" members on here got real frustration/annoying

I didn't mean to attack you, I apologize. I just get frustrated when I see someone ask an honest question and then get crucified for it. My comment was meant towards everyone that had a smart ass comment that provided no help.

and i got tired of gmsc about the time i had one of these newbie moments when i first got my car and put on a cai and asked why i could hear such an audible bov sound and the line (PCV) might have caused it.
then proceeded to get "omg, if you dont know. dont mod your car. ect. ect ect"
we all start somewhere i know 100 times more now and i will give people a hard time but will gladly pass on information. if you think they should use google or whatnot then dont post simple as that.
i thought these forums were to share knowledge not tell people to google ****
