Wheel Hop... HELP ME
Wheel Hop... HELP ME
So i have a 09 SS/TC and had so much hop problems from my 3 times going to the drag strip that i actually cracked the case of my trans (assuming it was the hop).
This is my first (and going to be last) descent HP FWD, and any time I felt the hop I tried to let out of it or clutch it to help prevent damage, but I still broke the car. This was when it was stock on stock tires.
Now I have a trifecta budget tune, and the hope is worse at the track, either hop or spin, and it tried hopping at like 40 mph in 2nd with the tune on. I really want anything to help prevent damaging my dang car when I want to use the boost.
Now I've heard of course trans and motor mounts help, but I want some actual input from owners who have had problems or have certain parts installed. Thanks

Severe hop on my 08. The hop has been 90% eliminated with ttr trans mounts and solid motor mount. I will still get a slight shutter when launching at the track sometimes but its nothing even close to the wheel hop i had.
It sounds like you know how to drive the car with just being on the verge of traction but the hop is holding you back.

ha u r right.. but at the same time what you said is just stupid. im not saying ur stupid but what your talking about is straight up burning out the clutch. if you want hardcore slippage in a couple months you can do that but for the most part youve gotta dump it. atleast you SHOULD be able to. the car shouldnt hop like they do. but chevy made a flaw with it. either way is bad for the car ha. dumping or riding the clutch. but in my opinion riding it out causes the clutch to wear out. dumping it atleast grips quick and wont let it slip. if you have an aftermarket clutch i mean
Welcome to trying to race on low profile street tires with no sidewall flex at the drag strip.
Go buy some drag slicks if you want to drag race, drag slicks = no wheel hop.
Rotated trans mounts will also help for when your not on the strip.

I'm getting ZZP Tranny Mounts soon, because my cars lowered and I hear it helps out more for lowered cars.
Anyway, I don't get wheel hop at the track because I'm riding my clutch too much and this can contribute to my low times lol. I did once and didn't like it so I tried to keep it from happening by slipping my clutch like crazy. I'm too gentle on my car at the strip now that I think about it.
I'll let you know if I get wheel hop on ZZPs mounts, my guess is no, but I'll be sure to comment on them.

its the nature of these cars stock. I've even got NT05's on the front of mine and it'll do the hippity hop bone stock when trying to leave hard. I've got OTTP stage 1 mounts sitting at the house waiting to go on and pedders springs are on the way... I'm not sure how much the upper engine mount actually helps tho.
Get this and problem will be 90% eliminated. Ingalls Eng Stiffy for Cobalt SS without having to spend a **** load on mounts.
Don't waste your money on the ingals, it's just engine bling. I have one, got it cheap brand new, and it didn't do anything. As soon as I put in the ZZP stage 2 mounts it fixed everything. They are really easy to put in and took maybe an hour on jack stands. Just put a 2x4 on your jack, put it under the oil pan or somewhere under the motor for support and go for it. I did the front first and left the bolts slightly loose then did the rear and then tightened everything up.
You can adjust it to make it stiffer or softer, you can play with it till you find what setting you like. They worked great for my past 2 cars and will be going on my car next week.
i've only had hop when i'm leaving hard... if i leave hard and it just spins i get no hop... maybe you've just been lucky.
i'm trying to find some SS/NA or IRL wheels right now to throw slicks on.
