That white smoke tho

Got a 09 SS/TC. Only upgrades are CAI and straightpipe. Recently after WOT or hell just shifting in the higher RPMs I'll stop at a light and I'll get white smoke and a funky smell. I'm positive it is white smoke. And the smell isn't rotten eggs or a rich smell. Not sure how to describe it. Just recently had a CEL for Evap High Purge and replaced the solenoid which fixed that problem. Other than that everything else is running smooth. Help me!

Nah. It's definitely not a sweet smell. And I sure haven't.Planned on throwing some new plugs in this weekend....so while I'm at it, what and where exactly should I be looking for shaft play. God.....that sounds awfully wrong.

Pulled the plugs and they look pretty good. Maybe a touch on the lean side, but aside from that no gnarly ass gunk or char. No oil or any fluid of any type either. I'll be attempting to search for this turbo shaft play Thursday. Any other ideas yet?

white smoke is coolant.

So my guess would be bad turbo seals. Especially if it's mainly under boost.

Take your intake off and wiggle the compressor wheel for shaft play

Alright, I'll be doing that as soon as I get off of 24 hour duty.
However, had the wife in the car tonight and it started smoking again....mind you I have been shifting early as hell as not to be digging into the boost. She said it smells like burnt oil. If it does end up being turbo seals is the best route new turbo or rebuild current turbo?
Thanks in advance y'all.

Easier to replace a k04 than build.

Yea. Replace with an upgrade. I mean, might as well.. my moto is "why put back stock if I can get a better replacement aftermarket." Save your pennys, pimp your wife if you have to, but do yourself a favor and get a better turbo for that thing.

well ZFR is a common option bolt on turbo, K04R from turbobay performance is a great turbo too if your looking for a safe and reliable option with at least a 20whp bump in power over stock.

Alright, went to town this weekend. I pulled all the piping off the turbo, and checked for shaft play. No shaft play and there wasn't any oil. However it looked like there was burnt up carbon in the exhaust side. Wasn't 100 % sure what that means. While I was at it, I tightened downed all the valve cover bolts from the asshat that replaced the gasket while I was deployed and never tightened them back. I seafoamed with the old plugs, and drove it around a good bit. Threw new and properly gapped plugs in. Now it only does it if I let the car idle for around 3-5 minutes compared to the 30 seconds it was. And it's not smoking as bad, just the smell. Any hints?

Does it smell like burnt sugar? Like a 2 stroke? Like raw gasoline?

Nah. Had more of an oil smell to it. Coolant levels were great(radiator.) I drove it around for a while this morning, got into a few pulls and it hasn't smoked at all. Too paranoid to be happy.

Could this have anything to do with it? Or is that normal. The spikes are when the clutch is depressed.
