who wants a CAI DIY?
hey guys, i finally figured out the big problem with the intake. i had a leak that i thought i fixed, but didn't. if you guys want, i can tell you how to build one for yourself. it only put me back a air filter, adjustable intake pipes from Autozone, and some dremmel time. Hit me up if you want me to make it. i would do it tonight but, my girl wants me for...yea

Parts you need to make your own:
all parts Spectre brand
3" universal intake kit
45 degree 3" elbow
two couplers
Part # 9405 for the maf adapter so you dont have to jurry rig a maf adapter (not sold at most local parts places, Jegs sells this part) OR cut and hack and dremel an adapter from other spectre parts.
Cone air filter of your choice.
There you go - under $150 custom cold air intake. If I could find my damn camera Id take a picture of it.

i measured the distance of the stock maf position from the turbo and put it the same distance away.
i have never seen a code even on hard pulls. i slid a couple of cheezy silicone couplers over the pipes where it came close to frame metal to keep rattles down, i have no problems with mine so far and definately wont be going to the dealer for that ******* plastic nipple for crank vent line. my tubing is different from the kit listed but same idea and size tubing should have no problems if you do your own.

Are you guys even getting any noticable performance increase or is the ECM effectively limiting it? Also, any DTC set off by the swap. Im assuming no as long as the MAF is unchanged.

I think the stock air box at these hp levels we are seeing so far on this forum is more than adequate with just a drop in.
I was looking into an intake, but after tt morgan at synapse, I am leaving the box in place for now.

as for codes us 3" tubing cause that is the size where the maf is and get it close to the stock distance and all codes should stay off. i drove around with my crank vent pipe off for three days while i got the fitting made for it and it still didnt throw any codes.

You may get a P0101 code after a few days. A few of us have seen this - the solution is to move the maf sensor closer to the filer by about 6 inches. It seems to be hit or miss if you will see this code.
Im torn, I really like the sound, but I have more random misfires now (I was getting them before, just now more pronounced with the new intake).

Id like to see a video or hear a sound clip of what some of these CAI you guys are making sound like. Cause it sounds like without a tune theres not going to be much change in performance, so the only reason Id do it is if it makes a really sweet change in the sound. I know when I swapped over to a big K&N on my vette whenever I rev it all you can hear is the WHOOSH of air being sucked in. So someone get outside and record it all ready!!! haha Help me make up my mind on whether or not I want to bother fabricating one.
