Why do people think the K04 is so small?

How many stock turbo cars are capable of making well over 300whp?

In reality they are not that small. Not to mention much more power is going to be a hassle in FWD cars.

I come from a 2g DSM with the t-25's. Maybe I'm just being ignorant, but I'm pretty sure cars like the WRX were having problem getting over 300whp with the stock turbo. Even with the 1g DSM's. They have the 14B which is pretty small, but not that small, and it doesn't make 300whp unless you really put work in.

05Slowline 09-02-2010 09:51 PM

Why? did you ever look at it? lmfao.

I had an 05 Evo MR before my SS and it was possible to make good numbers from the 16g going through all 4 wheels.

Drivetrain loss is an issue to yes.

My view is push the stock stuff as far as possible then start changing parts.

Want me to post a pic of the K04? It's pretty small. A turbo doesn't have to be large to make decent numbers, just efficient.

Truth and a good tune is key.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

yea if you shove 30psi in it lmao

JPizzle 09-03-2010 07:25 AM

 Yes the K04, is a tiny turbo if you ever see it... But it does produce some very good numbers. :) :twothumbs

the ol' "size matters" thread.

Spooled 09-03-2010 10:41 AM

I bet the Balt's in Texas have bigger turbos then the ones that arent....

For this displacement motor it is a medium sized turbo.

Boxing Fan 09-03-2010 03:06 PM

I guess everyone see's my point. Efficiency wise, it is not small.

mrsilent13 09-03-2010 03:20 PM

but it is small...when ever mine decides to fail...hello gt28...maybe as much as a gt35

slowbalt84 09-03-2010 03:40 PM

why not just do a GT30? it's more efficienct than the GT28 and has about the same spool. GT35 is too big IMO

Billig ss/sc 09-03-2010 03:47 PM

^^What's a GT2876 good for power-wise? 350-400whp?

There are many different turbos that fit those specs you listed. GT3071 GT3076 GT2871 GT2876 and there are different A/Rs for each turbo as well. A GT3076 with the largest exhaust housing is going to spool at least 1,000 RPMs later than a 2871 with the smallest exhaust housing. A 3071 with the smallest exhaust housing is a good choice for this car as is the GT2871 with the middle or largest exhaust housing ( I cannot remember all the A/Rs LOL)

383_Stroker 09-03-2010 05:28 PM

Because its the size of a donut?

I want to see what comes of that turbo engineer that was on the kappa forums saying he could put gt2871 internals in the K04. Said hes done it for the mazda k04s no prob.....we will see.

garrett claims up to 480 but i take it that's on a larger motor, def not gonna happen on a 2.0 lulz prob 300 give or take

RoadconeTuning 09-03-2010 06:19 PM

because the k04 is a baby turbo...

I don't want to get to sidetracked on this thread but there's a couple of Evo's that make 350 whp or more with bolt on's on 25 psi.
