is a 2.8 ok here?

I know this question is often hotly debated but I wanted to ressurect the argument for just a moment. Is a 2.8 ok to run with 42's(my setup) or not? I am asking because I used to run the 2.8 for six months and then bumped up to save some gas and because i was concerned with damaging the motor. But, I see there are others running that setup with no issue. Comments appreciated.

sure you can run that, but it'd be much safer to run 60's. someone will say you're ok, but your injectors are probably maxed, which is not what your injectors were designed for.

here is my setup

-stage 2
-2.85" pully
-header
-2.5" exhaust
-cobra heat exchanger
-cai

this combo has been on the car for well over a year now. ive had no issues at all. i am doing a dual pass and upgrading to a cxracing h/e, however with my recently purcheased areoforce, i had charge temps at 105f in 85f ambient air.

I would like to jump to 60's, but it is hot as hell in Bmore right now and I dont have the extra cash for H/E and dual pass and all that kinda crap. I wonder if I could get away with not having the H/E for a while. I was thinking a wideband would be a good idea with that setup too?

you can run 60's without the H/E, the heat won't really change much. you'll have to tune for the 60's though, and cooling is an extremely important mod with these cars, i'd put that higher on the priority list.

no plain and simple. its not ok to run a 2.8 with 42lbs, you can get away with a 2.9 though

+1 you can't run a 2.8 and 42lbers without them being static atleast.

did u not know that the stock injectors are maxed from the factory? The gm tunes are rich from the factory. It is a known fact and I even had a knowledgeable tech tell me that the cobalts run rich.

a good tune = 2.9 is maxed

2.8 i would put my limiter down to 6500 to be safe. You know best.

they're not 100% maxed from he factory, close, but not maxed, and yes, i know they run rich. stage 2 is even richer, and those injectors work hard also.

42lb injectors are max'd out with a 3.0 pulley.....a 2.9 makes them static but generally only at WOT...since you don't run WOT all the time ppl claim it is ok, hence the "you can get away with it" line....however its not good for your injectors or engine, just bump to the 60's with a 2.8....2.8 pulley is good since it is highly debatable but many consider it the most efficient pulley for power/tq without overspinning the supercharger
