2.9 to 2.8

Right now i have a 2.9 pulley and 42lb injectors what will i need to run a 2.8 safely and not blow or mess anything up. Will i need to beef up the tranny or get a better clutch? Also im tuned by trifecta

2.9 is about the max my car would allow for IAT2 Temps to not to go high. I had no cooling mods at this point. Once i went 2.8 you could see temps were getting to high. Added the ZZP S3 H/E and temps dropped to a good level during pulls.

60's & Coolings mods are a must if you want to drop to a 2.8. Front & Rear Trans Mounts along with a Tune is your best option.

From what i've experienced which it already looks like you have, but header/downpipe/catback. Definately cooling mods from ZZP and 60 pound injectors and a retune and you'd be good to go!

Thanks. Are trans mounts a must in order to not break the tranny? also is the clutch and tranny able to hold up under this kind of boost

60's and a new tune is a must. Cooling mods is optional...it isnt a must. I ran 2.8/60's all summer long and never had issues, that being said, if u want more out of it, get cooling mods, i recommend meth injection.

As long as u know how to drive and your clutch doesnt have alot of wear on it, yes your clutch/tranny will be fine. My clutch lasted 90,000km with a 2.8/60/meth and other mods, then changed to the TVS and it handled fine.

I was getting wheel hop with a few mods on just 2.9, 42's Intake and a tune.
Never got to test the zzp front a rear trans mounts at the track yet but on the street you could tell it was gone.

As for the clutch:

Got my car with 34k on it and it has 53 now. Clutch did not make it to long for me going to the track. It actually slipped the first day i took it there and now slips really bad from 2k to 4.5 k. Made about 30 passes down the track last year.Exedy Stage 3 Hypersingle is going in two weeks from now, so my clutch did not make it.

you can never go wrong having too many cooling mods. Its more of a security on your motor. heat is our biggest enemy.
Id reccomend a dual pass, option b, front mount heat exchanger, 60s, and mounts ( all from companies of your choice ) and if you want to get into it that far water/meth injection. all with a good tune youll be running safely and have more usable power not loss to heatsoak.

clutch will be fine at that power level as long as you have somewhat of an idea how to drive.

while your at it tho id reccomend one step or possibly two step colder plugs.

Then go out and rip on it and have fun!

NEVER run a 2.8 on 42s. iv ran a 2.8 on 60s without any cooling mods and 21 degrees of timing. it was fine. i made 242 232. but cooling mods ALWAYS help

i was on stock clutch with my 2.8 setup and it held fine
