2.9 Spark Plug Gap

I have the stage 2 right now and was thinking about getting a 2.9 on there. I figured it would be a good idea to get some new spark plugs to go along with it(NGK BKR7E) should the spark plug gap stay the same as stock(.45) or should I make it closer? Cobalt-Addiction says they have dyno proven results that a 2.9 should have a .40 gap but im not sure how accurate this is....any suggestions?

Thanks!

yeah, i've got the 2.9" and put my new spark plugs in at .38" gap (exactly the same gap as stockers). I might pull them out to .40 though cause i see a teeny tiny bit of knock and i've pretty much got as many cooling mods as you can get before you start spraying meth. But yes, its .40" is good for 2.9" pulley.

Every car is different, try a few gaps and then use what your car likes best.

which spark plugs are you running? Its always better to start out larger, only thing you have to be worried about is blowout at the top end if you're going too big and having misfire, but if you go too small then you get higher heat and can start knocking.

After watching my 1-2 degrees of knock in the high mid rpms of 3rd and 4th i think my original gapping needs to be mended. I never tested any other gap sized in the first place, just gapped them to stock specs.

Just to let you know, I was running the BKR7E's for a while. I scanned my car one day for knock and got 5° of knock with them in 2nd gear. Pulled them and put the stock plugs in and didn't get any. I had them gapped at like .037-.038. I am going to run the stock plugs for a while now.

It's really hard to pin down a gap that will work for everyone . I started a .40 and worked my way down to .30 . I found that .33 worked the best for my car , but it took alot of time to test all those different gaps.

Everyone always said to use those brk7es. I thought they were fine till another member on here said he was getting knock with them with just stage 2. That made me nervous so I wanted to check my set up before I took it to the track. Luckily I did, 5° isn't good. I was running those plugs a long time too. Probably close to a year. Even two track visits with them.

so the gap being too low can cause knock?, if so i might need to raise mine to .040 from the .035 it is now? I have no misfire but i do have a few degrees of knock

So I have read all the suggestions and I was wondering how do you test for the knock and what are some good ways of testing for spark blow out (ie. quick run through the gears or what?)

When I experienced blow out it was above 5500 rpm the car will suddenly feel like it's heart skipped a beat but will continue going up in rpm's as your speed continues to increase but it shouldn't happen again unless your plug gaps are completely random or completely stupid

I should add that before I experienced this I was driving relatively slowly kinda like a grandma on a country road who is on vacation then I decided to downshift and go
