3" hurt perforance?

I picked up a full 3" catback for 200 bucks. But my car is stock. How much will it hurt performance? Should I spend money on 2.5 piping or is it not that big of a diff and would be a good idea for mods? I would like to push 300 hp some day.

you'll lose performance on a pretty much stock car. Get a 2.5 or get it to barrel down to a 2.5.

Once you get to 300hp you'll need a 3 inch exhaust, but before then, you will lose hp.

i think once your in the 260whp range 3" should be fine. since you have it just install it because your going to need it when you mod some more down the road.

i have a 3" exhaust too

what mods would you need for this to have been the "right choice" haha

i just recently bought stage 2 from ottp so im going to install that as soon as i get it..

how much hp gain should i expect?
it says 40whp...and depending on supporting mods
all i have now is the 3" and CAI

i have ottp stage 2 with rev limit set to 73000rpms, 3" dp, 2.5" exhaust, aem cai, and the **** pulls real good, BUT i did modify the tune after a while with the help of some friends so its even better. its a good setup to start out with hands down

i did open my exhaust up to 3" to the axel and i felt a good responce from that alone so keep the 3". when i get the tax return im thinking about getting the hahn 3" catback.

i like your comment though lol

imma start some exterior stuff on my balt tomorrow..debadge/paint some stuff...etc. etc.

Maybe ill add 2.5 inch for now. but this guy also has stage 3 from factory which hed be willing to trade superchargers and computers for only 250. Would that void warranty? he said he used to be a chevy mechanic and it wouldnt. Would that be a good idea or sketchy?

do it yourself. thats what i would do, if something happens to go wrong at least you kno what you did to your car. i think up to stage 2 you good after that i believe your on your own but dont quote me on that.

Dont get stage 3. All it has over stage 2 is a pulley that is .1" smaller (actually like .06") and a tune you cant modify since the ECU is locked. If you need your warranty go with GM stage 2, if not buy all the parts seperate and get one of the tuners in your area to give you a custom tune. It is the cheapest and most effective way

Just buy the 3" exhaust because your probably gonna mod your car very soon with a smaller pulley, HE, maybe meth, who knows but if your have that 3" exhaust you wont have to buy a 2 1/2 then turn around and sell it after you mod heavy

thanks for the input. The shop wanted about 350 or something for a 2.5 inch anyways. He showed me the paperwork saying that stage 3 is by GM and covered under warranty. I was shocked. I never heard about it. I want CAI next. Dont know when Ill get stages. I wash hoping after my 6 year warranty was up lol.

Stage 3 is for off road use only .... It will Void your powertrain warranty. If you have the stock Downpipe on your car the 3'' exhaust won't hurt you .... cause you still have a 2'' restriction on the inlet to the stock DP , plus like a 2.25'' crush where the o2 sensor installs in it. So it's only going to flow so much . Now if you had an aftermarket DP I would say otherwise.
