Ahh the dreaded WRX sound...

so last night without any notice at all my car starts to run like crap and my cel is flashing. so i took it home an there is white smoke and the oil fill had smoke coming out of it when i took off the cap soooo im just going to guess its the piston ring and i hope to god i didnt damage the cyl wall but anywho what im getting at is i was wondering if anyone had any pistons for sale (all 4) cuz im gonna build the motor a bit.. maybe even a new valve system and cams.. idk i also what a little advice from the guys that have had this happen and/or have bult their motors.. should i look into new rods as well?.. i need to do this asap cuz i dont have a car to drive around.. well i have a work truck.. a big v8... dont wanna gas that puppy up all the time haha... oh yea almost forgot im gonna slap a turbo on there too.. and paul i know you will eventually get to this so you know i will need your help lol haha.. ok thanks in advance..

p.s anyone knows of some places that have good prices on pistons/ springs/ retianers/ etc.. the works lemme know!

CEL flashing means misfiring.

i knw a shop that can do all ur work for a good deal...all head work 1100 bux..u supply the parts and they will put everything together,just send them the head

Nope that's a blown engine pretty much fo sho.

Ok, MOST post 1998 OBD II cars, a flashing CEL means some sort of misfire.

flashng that it is a severe emission related problem or can hard the motor greatlly.... in general flashing mean its more severe and there are a handfull of codes thatll flash

Lucky when i had the same problem as your having now, I only cracked my number 4 piston in have and i was so lucky i didnt throw a rod.

yea its deff not a mis-fire code lol.. i deff think i blew the piston ring.. like 99.9% lol at least i got home lol i wasnt to far so that was good.. and i live in ny i wouldnt ship it down to nc to get it done lol there is a few places that i trust to do it around here and i know they will do a good job.. but thanks tho!

hopfully that all thats wrong with mine.. there is really no indication of my throwing a rod lol so i think i might just have lost the number 4.. but really cant tell till we rip into it lol

yea, flashing cel, is cat-damaging misfire,

but you for sure probably have a much bigger problem. good luck with the build and turbo man!

hey if anyone can give me some sites that they have used for buying pistons let me know! ill need at least pistons and ill probly just get cams and new valvetrain while im in there... if budget allows that of course lol.. and im thinking about a gt35r for my car.. sound good or you think it will start lossing steam uptop.. idk what i want my goals to be.. at least over 300 hp.. maybe closer to 400hp lol idk

Oh well when i have a 2.8 on mine with 60lbs
I guess everything got so hot inside that the heat eat the #4 piston. and i have no cooling mods now.


but after my motor build i made sure that i bought every cooling mod make for my car and then i started to mod it more. just to be on the safe side.

cool thanks man i knew the compresson ratio just not the bore.. i hope to god i dont have to hone the block lol.. tho i probly will.. and i didnt know you can bore it out to a 2.4 ill have to look into that.. did u sleeve it?

and i cant find a place that sells the ecotec pistons WTF lol

Intense racing sells diamonds for under $700 which is awesome cuz the stock one from gm are around 450.. and yes i did sleeve it

Pin diameter = .906"
Ring widths = 1.2, 1.5, 3.0 mm.
Dish volumes = 4.3 cc (10.0:1), 7 cc (10.5:1)

does that look about right.. im gonna go with the 10:1 but what i am concred about is the pin size.. whats stock?

Call Diamond racing direct, will be cheaper than a vendor for sure. I paid less than $600 including shipping for a full set with rings/pins and ceramic tops.

ok ill give that a try.. im also gonna get a cometic headgasket and some headstuds.. then i think thats it.. ill work on a turbo kit screw the rest of the stuff.. i probly cant or dont want to afford it haha

yep, I've laid out about 1G already just in the pistons and related **** like gasket and fasteners. You need to replace the rod bolts, crank bolt, head bolts (or go studs), and so on. **** gets obnoxious after a while.

go 9.5:1 comp ratio man, if your gonna do big boost stay with the stock comp. stock is @23mm
